Didn't Xbox support cross platform play already? FFXI on 360 could play with PS2/PC, Shadowrun on 360 could play with PC, and so on.
Very good idea for Microsoft. Part of the reason console sales snowball so hard is because people buy the same console their friends have bought in order to play with them. I'm not sure what Sony gets out of it though, since it takes away an advantage for them.

Both Valve and Micro$hit see the writing on the wall and are trying to integrate PC and console gaming before the console market goes under completely (which will likely happen in the next gen, or at the very latest the one after it).

Most multiplats hit the same framerate on both consoles, the resolution is where they usually differ. But why's it matter? People play on different resolutions, FoVs, and framerates on PC without running into any real issues.
