Is it true if you don't get online for awhile with a Denuvo

Is it true if you don't get online for awhile with a Denuvo protected game it will bug you for 'verification' or something? Did stealth online checks just get slipped into most AAA PC releases without anyone realizing it? Will the servers these checks go to still be up in 10 years?

yes

I hope not but there are rumors on /v/. I've seen people bring it up on like 3 different threads.

holy shit anon...just use your brain
read some steam forums, don't you think people woud rage about it if this where true?
same goes for ssd "rumor"

There are conflicting reports. Also might be some games specifically.

>>330793969
There are rumors on steam forums too. The trouble with covert online checks is most people are not going to notice them since they will be online...until the servers that take the verification go down, in which case your game is now a series of files on your HDD and nothing else.
>>
>>330794147
well shit, this is interesting
any reports on other games like tomb raider or jc3?
>>
>>330794460
Haven't heard anything about those except one guy complaining that if you play in offline mode in JC3 it will keep popping up a prompt nagging you to connect. But that isn't exactly "connect or you can't play longer than a month or X days"--it's more an annoyance

>Exactly, I love when I am in the middle of some explosive action and then the game pauses and asked me to reconnect or remain offline. Talk about immersion! Luckily this happens every 30 minutes or so!
>>
Literally pics or it didn't happen.

From what i understand you must run online any denuvo game at least once and then it should be fine to play offline
you can always try playing offline and refund it if something goes wrong

thanks for the info btw, this is horrible for people like me because i do like playing offline from time to time
>>
>>330795486
The thing is I bet if you change your hardware you will need to run it online again. The long term viability of these games is kind of in doubt unless the server is guaranteed to never go down.

>The long term viability of these games is kind of in doubt unless the server is guaranteed to never go down
only the time will then but then again, no one lives forever
>>
>>330796726
Well yeah past a certain point I don't care, although for historical preservationists it will be a nightmare but they're doomed anyway. But something like even 20 years...people still play N64 games and that console is 20 years old.
>>
>>330796978
>But something like even 20 years...people still play N64 games and that console is 20 years old.
agree but everything seems to aim for digital now, especially on pc
>>
>>330797229
digital isn't bad in and of itself, especially something like gog with no DRM. But they're getting extremely draconian with stuff like Denuvo

true, it's fun to read some salty post about denuvo from time to time but i'm not happy about it at all
let's just hope most potentially timeless tittles won't include denuvo, right now it's just AAA nothingness but i'm begin to worry about DaS 3
>>
>>330797598
well because free online and steam sells you know
>>
Picked up rottr again today, just to check the dx12 patch.
Got a "you must run this game online at least once" and hanged in there for a few minutes, though it wasnt my first start (5hrs played)
>>
>>330798291
Weird. It may be true that after a bit it requires an online check in.

>mfw denuvo protected games are selling like shit because piratebros are no longer allowed to play the game and tell paybros about how good it is, thus encouraging more people to get it
>>
>>330799341
actually the sales are pretty much the same
tomb raider sold very well on pc

This online verification sucks, but come on, when was the last time you played without being connected to the internet? I think since I last moved I only had a problem with my internet connection twice, one in 2012 when a storm fried some shit and in 2015 when my modem was replaced

Freedom is not given as a right, that we all know. It is a potentiality, a promise that if you work hard enough at your civics, you can fulfill the unfulfilled promises of your grand fathers and their grand fathers before them, to make that potentiality a reality. But it is an ideal, not a truth.

>>330799691
Lol

Looks like Denuvo really boosted those sales!
>>
>>330800081
So on PC it sold around .18m

again anon, how many hours have you spent playing a 10 year old game in the past month?
And come on, its like people bitching in the 90s about how you had to use the CD of the game to run it (people crying about how you would have to get another CD when yours got scratched after years of use), even when you had all the game files on your PC... just for patches being released a few years later that allowed you to play your original games without the CDs

Dont you think companies will just patch denuvo games in a few years to play the game without online verification? Or are you gonna go full major nelson and tell me that its not just a switch companies could make?

>>
>>330800542
No, on PC it sold 0.06m, and if on PC it sold 3 times as much as on xbone, it means it sold 20,000 copies on the bone
>>
>>330800751
>how many hours have you spent playing a 10 year old game in the past month?
If you'll count an 8 year old game, 55.

Don't force your preferences for only new games onto others, anon.

>Dont you think companies will just patch denuvo games in a few years to play the game without online verification?

I really don't think they would bother, anon, they aren't making money off the game anymore, so they don't care.
