Won what? They're completely different genres. If you mean which won on the atmosphere front, then BioShock. It's comfy and spooky.
>>
>>330785392
Have you even played Dead Space? Game had much better atmosphere than BiosShock
>>
Dead Space
>>
Bioschock

Dead Space was good but nowhere near Bioschock
>>
>>330785441
Nah not really. I liked Dead Space 2 more for the environments and spookyness. First one feels pretty samey throughout.

Dad's Place for sure.
>>
>>330785548
Dead Space 2 had better enviroments (more variaty) but it had too many action sequences in my opinion. The first one was more spooky to me.
>>
>>330785392
As in, they're both spiritual successors to system shock 2. Levine went on to make bioshock and some leftover SS3 concepts went on to become dead space.

As for me, I say BS is closer in terms of gameplay but dead space nails the atmosphere. Personally I have a comfier time replaying dead space probably just because there's less numbers flying around in that, and the HUD's cleaner. Plus I thought the DS series had a steadier, more intentional descent into modern action-game schlock. DS2 threw out all precepts of being survival horror at the end and became full-on action 3rd person shooter, so I wasn't surprised when DS3 took the route it took.

On the other hand, the BS series went all over the place after the first one and almost no one liked how it turned up.

Dead Space is Resident Evil 4 set in space.
>>
>>330785870
I don't get why Capcom didn't copy the same camara and movement set of Dead Space. I went from playing Resident Evil 5 to Dead Space and it was a world of difference.
>>
>>330785870
Doesn't change the fact that it's called "Dead Space" because EA was still in a legal battle with former Looking Glass
>>
>>330785257
Can we at least agree that both series fell apart with their third installments?
>>
>>330786136
Yes
>>
>>330786136
its a weird case. i'd say that for infinite, sure, but DS2 ended on this Evil Dead note of over-the-top alien butchering that was never present in DS1. 3 felt almost like the natural continuation of that sort of feel, whether we liked it or not. both DS3 and Infinite are the worst in their series though, no doubt
>>
>>330786136
>>330786313
>>330786341

Can they ever get back? Do a new Dead Space or Bishock could be as great as they used to? Or a new version would be worse
>>
>>330785257
bioshock - good
bioshock 2 - great
bioshock infinite - fantastic

dead space - good
dead space 2 - fucking great
dead space 3 - utter and complete SHIT

bioshock wins, im sorry
>>
>>330786485
Levine left bioshock after BaS1 and they only made BaS2 because they were legally contracted to by the season pass shit. Much as I dislike Levine at this point, he was the major force behind the entire series, none of it would've ever happened without him. So no, bioshock infinite will probably never happen.

DS only survived on its appeal to the masses, which "ended" when no one bought DS3 DLC. EA won't likely ever revisit the series.

All that said though, we can hope for SSHD and SS3 to be good. Underworld Ascendant is a fucking labor of love as far as I can tell, and I have high hopes. inb4 we get duke nukem forever 2.0, man. fuckshit.
>>
>>330786805
it keeps happening

bioshock 4*
>>

Levine is gone so B4 might actually be good

I thought Dead Space 3 was pretty good, at least worth playing through, DLC is really cool too

No.
>>
>>330787447
1 for sure imo, 2 had all that dialogue and shit in the castle where 1/5th of it was write-it-down crucial but you never knew which 1/5th it would be, and it's never repeatable. there's just way too much point-and-click styled puzzling in 2 and i'm really bad at that stuff, so 1.
>>
>>330785257
I like that match up. Both games were throwbacks to a different kind of dark sci fi experience. Both were great games with gameplay that was good but improved in the sequel.

Bioshock is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm a sucker for a well written antagonist and Ryan was damn near perfect in his rationale for the things he does. If Atlas had that same depth the game would be damn near perfect.

But Dead Space is probably my favorite survival horror game of all time by not feeling clunky like most of the genre.

So I'd say I won.

I liked atlas though. He complemented "the Rapture public" as a character super well. Ryan's ideology has the public working for their keep, and Atlas exploits this by offering the service of not having to work so hard. I think what he needed was more coverage of the conversion from Fontaine into Atlas, but the game doesn't have much time to spell that out.

"Made Ryan good and mad when I started playing the charity angle. Fontaine's Home for the Poor. 'Fore I knew it, I was calling myself Atlas and leading an army.

Ryan and his precious Rapture. You don't have to build a city to make people worship you ... just make the chumps believe they're worth a nickel."

Dead Space 3 is a better game than Bioshock Infinite.
>>
>>330789931
absolutely
>>
Dead Space was a better game than Bioshock. Both were great games.

Dead Space 2 is the best in the series. Bioshock 2 is an abhorrent piece of rancid garbage.

Dead Space 3 was an ignonimous end to a once great series. Bioshock Infinite is the best video game ever made.

Bioshock's legacy lives on, Dead Space's does not.

Bioshock (the original at least) endures as a classic and critically acclaimed "masterpiece", and because of the themes it explores it serves as a work worthy of critical analysis which stands apart from most vidya. You'll always see it on lists of "Best of All Time" because of the story it tells and questions it asks, which give it some artistic merit among vidya.

Dead Space grows less important with each passing day.

That's not to say one is better or worse, Bioshock was just the one that caught on and is viewed the way it is because of that. Again, probably because of the themes and tone explored, so a critic can pick it up and try to analyze it as a serious work rather than "just" a video game. Dead Space might be a better game, but it doesn't stand to the same kind of critic/artistic scrutiny, so it will always be less prominent and less celebrated. You can think 20 years from now, people will still hearken back to the original Bioshock, rather than Dead Space.
>>
In retrospect probably Dead Space, but Dead Space 3 is a gigantic piece of shit while Bioshock Infinite is a slightly smaller gigantic piece of shit.
>>
>>330786715
Dead Space 2 was a good game but it completely missed the point of the first one, and it just turned into a generic action game.

Dead Space 3 built on that and turned into Army of Two in space.

By the end of the series Bioshock made more money, but I don't think anyone who played both DS3 and BS3 will say BS3 was the better sequel of their respective series. At least DS3 continued the story of the original, even if it wasn't as good. BS3 was BS3.

They're both fucking awesome

One is first person and one is third person, and they're both atmospheric as fuck.

DS2 was arguably better than Bioshock 2, so in the end if one has to win over the other Dead Space comes out on top.
>>
>>330797841
The gameplay and especially the tasks you had to complete were way better though.
The original Bioshock is one giant fetchquest.
>>
Bioshock is a pretty decent game

Dead space is absolute dogshit.
>>
>>330786136
Bioshock is the 3 installlment.

Its a dumbed down system shock and consolebabbies first rpg fps.

Was very disappointed when it was relased. Funny how everyone was celebrating it when i was playing the same exact game in not stupid years before.
>>
>>330797953
Gameplay was better but it also had those shitty horde missions

I agreed with you until your post devolved into some pretentious hipster rant.
>>
>>330798450
Maybe it was a bit harsh.

Bioshock is not a bad game. Far from it.

It was just extremely strange how everyone was talking about it like it was the first.

Its whole design was a more streamlined and less clunky (and finished) System Shock 2.

But everyone was just ignoring SS2 (at bioshock release). Like it never happend.

Neither of them comes even close to System Shock 2

From a story and atmosphere perspective Dead Space definitely. Also better gameplay and visuals and basically everything.

Bioshock meanwhile is one of the most overrated games ever and I do not comprehend what people see in it.
