I didn't have any problems installing AO on CoP.
Though when i played it, I noticed that the animations for the assault rifles are noticeably stuttering. That's probably the only thing that I can think of.

CS is pretty deeply flawed and CoP is godlike, so I'd go for CoP.
CoP is a different game to SoC, though. Anomalies and artifacts work differently, there's fewer random pockets of radiation, and generally you'll be fighting humans more than mutants. It feels more open-world than SoC although there is linear main story. The early game is easier since you start with an AKS-74u.

I've never heard anything that good about CS though. The general consensus is to skip over it.
If you want to try it then get both in a sale, but if (like you said) you only want one, CoP is the recommended one.

I finished CS just fine as patched vanilla AND with the Starter Pack's fixes. I'd recommend giving it at least a shot with the Starter Pack; it introduces some neat new features to the series that are still present in CoP.
Funfact: the horrible CS COMPLETE mod, which some people call "bug fixer", actually ADDS some new, game-breaking bugs to the game.

I almost like CS more than CoP, which was way too calm and easy as a STALKER game. The harsh economy of CS especially is very neat.
It's not a perfect game by any means, maybe even the weakest STALKER title, but that does not make it a horrible game. The "sequels" are, after all, pretty much just like standalone expansions.
Daily reminder that your most heavily-anticipated will never, EVER come out.

It'd still be a CoP mod anyway. No reason to be hype for it as it would take weeks if not months for other modders to dissect it and integrate it into other mods worth half a shit, and a few more weeks to get all the bugs sorted.
Didn't OGSE come out the other day? Anyone playing it? Last mod I played was autumnaurora 2.2 or so and it had gamebreaking savefile corrupts.
