Is Metroid Prime the most perfect First Person game up to date?

>480p with perfectly solid 60fps on a console from the early 2000s
>art style that keeps it enjoyable even today
>great sound track, great music, great mix
>more than 15 hours to 100% it
>maintains the essence of the 2D Metroid games

How come we haven't get a N3DS port yet is beyond me.
>>
>>330759347
its one of my favorite games OP
>>
>>330759347
The only thing I felt that the game was missing was areas not on the map room
Super metroid has those cool ass secret areas with secrets in themselves
>>
I prefer Prime 2 but i recognize that 1 is more "perfect"
Fuck i really miss playing those two motherfuckers for the first time

>remembering being picked up from school by mother goose
>she hands me a gift all wrapped up
>its metroid prime
>read the manual on the way home and get excited

Such perfection
>>
>>330759347
Probably the tightest first person single player experience to date
>>
remember the first time you entered the lab in the ice-fields, and being scared as fuck because of metroids and pirates? i do.
>>
One of my fav games, we are in 2016 and there's hardly any better first person ("shooter") game up to date.
>>
>>330759347
i'd through in Portal 2 and Mirrors Edge in for a vote!
>>
>>330760884
That shit scared me more than actual horror games.

Whenever I was replaying I would blaze through that section as fast as I could cuz it freaked me out so much. And I only went for 100% one time because I didn't want to have to get the collectibles in there again.
>>
I was used to not needing a memory card for my nintendo consoles, so for christmas I got a gamecube and metroid prime. I beat the tutorial three times that day, then the next day I got an actual memory card and actually started to make progress. Metroid games and GTA: SA are the only games I've ever 100%'d, I think.
>>
I currently am replaying after quite some years and, man, Phendrana really doesn't hold up to the memories. Godly music though.

It really is great. I usually don't find myself playing First Person games but this one I can play a lot. Even enough to do randomizer runs. It's just so fun.
>>
Samus moves too slowly and that artifact fetchquest shit annoyed me.

It's great and all but I don't think it's perfect.
>>
I thought 2 was the better game. Although I love 1 for having the typical ice, fire, jungle environments 2 just felt like you were on an actual planet.
>>
>>330761208
>2 better
>those boring, annoying Dark World segments

Nah

But 2 has some pretty badass bosses, I admit
>>
>>330760884
>having to go through the entire lab with nothing but the termal visor
>>

That only really applies for Argon Wastes

>How come we haven't get a N3DS port yet is beyond me.
It can't handle it.
>>
I enjoyed it, though I admit I would have loved to have been able to do more surveying.
>>
>>330761362
They're all pretty tedious. You're literally re-treading the same environment just dark n' gloomy.

>>330759347
Agreed. Retro absolutely nailed the atmosphere. The ghost music is engraved into my head 14 years later. The only letdown is the artifacts hunting bullshit towards the end

>How come we haven't get a N3DS port yet is beyond me.
Honestly I don't think the 3D's awful 400 x 240 screen would do it any justice. A Wii U or NX port would be much better.

It's a shame the Metroid franchise as a whole is often ignored by Nintendo due to it being more popular in the west than Japan.
>>
>>330759347
I wish there were more games like it
>>
>>330759347
Honestly I think the motion controls are better
>>
>>330760275
I think the environments feel more organic in Prime 2. Much of Prime 1's level design was winding corridors and large rooms with a pathways going up at the edges. Still love both though.
>>
Wish the trilogy release wasn't botched

Would've been perfect otherwise
>>
>>330761684
How did they botch it?
>>
>>330761515
>backtracks to Chozo ruins
>Chozo Ghosts in every room
The fuck were they thinking? Some were skipable too
>>
>>330759347
>controls that are literal dog shit

Fuck off shill
>>
>>330759347
>Is Metroid Prime the most perfect First Person game up to date?
Don't agree with that statement, but only because of how it's worded. Prime does a lot of things well, like atmosphere, but the actual FPS mechanics are pretty weak.
>>
>>330761730
I think you were only required to fight them like 3 times
>>
>>330761396
>can handle Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
>can handle Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)
>can handle Smash (port from WiiU)
>can handle Resident Evil Revelations (then ported to PC, PS3, 360 and WiiU)
>but can't handle an early 2000s GameCube game with not many enemies in each area

I'm missing something.
>>
I wish this had a 'New Game +' mode with random enemy placement.

I mean keep the same enemies for each room, but have then in different spots.
Just to give it a bit more replayability.
>>
>>330761720
Not him but the controls are absolute garbage.
>>
>>330761819
How?
>>
>>330759347
Yeah this game is pretty stupidly good. It's gotta be the best first-person game I'VE ever played. Perfectly translated Metroid into 3D. Hell, I think the controls are even better than twin-stick.

>>330761515
>artifacts hunting bullshit towards the end
You can start artifact hunting as soon as you visit the Artifact Temple though. Heck, I accidentally found two before visiting there. If you never visit that area until until towads end, then it does really suck.
>>
>>330761798
>can handle a bunch of botchered ports that do maybe about 50% justice to the actual games

Motion controls.
>>
>>330759347
Super is better
>>
>>330761890
Donkey Kong Country Returns is fine though

Even made the controls better
>>
>>330761798
>Xenoblade
They're struggling for it
>DKC
Sacrificed the texture and the fps
>Smash
basically different game from the scratch and gimped the console version for it
>RE
was made basically for 3DS

And fuck that, I don't want play on 240p screen
>>
>>330761437
The bad part imo was having to sit through the same annoying cutscene every time you warped. That problem is exacerbated by the fact that Agon Wastes (and Sanctuary Fortress partially) was the only area with a complete Dark Aether map. Most of the other Dark Aether areas were discrete sets of rooms you had to warp to separately every time.
>>
>>330761943
The motion controls in MP3 are fantastic though. Are they not the same for the trilogy?
>>
>>330759347
A bit too much backtracking (like all classic metroid), the controls feels a bit dated but it's certainly the best FPS on a Nintendo console
>>
>>330761637
I do too. MP in VR with motion controls is something I want to experience before dying.
>>
>>330761943
Are you one of the guys who holds their entire arm in the air when they point the wiimote at the screen?
>>
>>330759553
there was a few of those...
>>
>>330761950
The port has terrible framerate compared to the original.
>>
>>330759347
the controls are weird and moving forward seems sluggish and stunted. I'd prefer Halo 1 controls over that dumb shit. seriously.
>>
>>330762004
They are the same, but I still prefer the GC way much more
>>330762051
>b-but you can rest your arm on yo leg!1
please, that doesn't make it comfortable or good, since you still have to not move or else Samus is going full retard.
>>
>>330759347
Controls were probably the worst of an fps to date. Also shoehorned a platformer into a fps to captilize on a popular genre like odd world. It's literally baby's first GameCube fps
>>
Metroid Prime [& the GBA games] were the last good things Nintendo did, in my opinion.
>>
>>330761720
>>330761819
Actually I was talking about the removed graphical effects and rewritten lore

Though the lore change is originally from the gayass European version so whatever
>>
>>330762238
Here's your (you)
>>
>>330759347
There's no essence of 2d metroid stop being a cuck. And when they did try to do it in the sequels it was horrible
>>
>>330762148
Never had any framerate problems when I played.
>>
>>330762327
Have you even played the originals?
>>
>>330760884
maybe not the pirates, but the metroids FUCK THAT, and then you see them again in the mines behind that defense grid wall, GOD
>>
>>330762383
No. I'm sure it runs better but the 3DS version plays fine for me. Game is annoying as fuck on some levels though.
>>
>>330762238
Lol.
>>
>>330762327
The frame rate actually is bumped down for the 3DS port, Anon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYrjmpEytwg
Sorry for shilling GameXplain.
>>
>>330762327
The Wii version is 60fps while 3DS is 30. They should've patched it to use the N3DS's power for 60fps for when the game is being played on there. MH4U is similar, uses the extra power of the N3DS while having compatibility with the lower end O3DS.
>>
>>330761956
The FPS problem on DKCR as well as on Splinter Cell, MGS3D and a bunch of others can be solved with NTRCFW, that allows the game to use the full power of the N3DS processor (N3DS = New 3DS).

I'll give you Xenoblade since it's beyond repair even on the Wii.

Smash may have been made from scratch, but it yet runs at 60fps in 3D and works as a decent port from the WiiU.

And RE:R got ported to the other platforms and yet it holds very well against them.

The N3DS could run Metroid Prime with the proper porting work.
>>
>>330762461
Then don't go around saying that the 3ds or n3ds can handle games that you don't fully know about.
Xenoblades 3d is shit compared to the wii one, so is smash and the others.
>>
Not with all that shitty backtracking.
>>
>>330762517
>>330762535
You guys were making it sound like it runs at 14FPS or something. I don't see a problem with it being 30FPS on a weaker console.
>>
Ehh, I'd play an N3DS port, but didn't care for the wagglin' or clunky GC controls.

Also, it didn't feel like the 2D Metroids.
>>
>>330762556
>Then don't go around saying that the 3ds or n3ds can handle games that you don't fully know about.

Good thing I didn't say that.
>>
>>330762564
>revisiting areas with new powers / visors to find stuff you didn't have access to before, possibly opening up a new area
>backtracking
When will the 'backtracking' meme end?
>>
>>330762658
The point is anon is claiming that the 3ds can run home consoles games while basing those claims on botched ports, not the actual games
I don't want a mutilated Metroid Prime.
>>
>>330762730
It's the only big complaint people can find with a basically flawless game so people like to spam it endlessly.
>>
Am I the only one who doesn't care about backtracking?
>>
>>330762871
I only do when it comes to the Chozo Artifacts & Sky Temple Keys since they don't upgrade you or anything so it feels more like a chore. Otherwise I don't mind it, I like exploring the areas after all for upgrades.
>>
>>330759347
It's a good game but pretty mediocre as a shooter.
Althought I grew up with games like Half-Life and battlefield 1942 and only a pc so there's that.
>>
>>330761515
>Always hear complaints about artifact hunting
>Collected five before I even visited the temple
I just don't get the issue.
>>
>>330762564

>in a Metroid game

Stop the presses
>>
>>330762871
As long as it is rewarding, I'm fine with it. Metroid Echoes got you going back all the time for stupid things like keys. I hated that.
>>
