You know what, I'm gonna go against the grain here. Dark is better than Demon's. I really think its only hipsters that prefer Demon's. Dark has a better world, more variety and the combat is less swishy.

Demon's is a more consistent experience and I found the world and premise more interesting along with better level design.

Not really. You can buy unlimited healing items for fairly cheap and they cast faster making heal, recovery and antidote useless.
I would say evacuate is useful as it instantly returns you to the nexus but that's about it. You will also have to use a boss soul to buy many of the miracles.

I always got the feeling that your character has infinite tries because no matter what he/she refuses to give up and so wont wither away or turn into a demon or hallow or anything. Once you accept defeat you die. So maybe beating a boss/npc means they finally give up.

Yes. The other posters who said no are retarded. Second Chance is fucking incredible. Banish is hilarious. And Evacuate is useful. The heals are also worth using, though you do have tons of heals in the game.
The main thing that's nice is that you can get health regen from faith weapons.

None of the bosses are particularly hard, maybe Flamelurker, Maneater, or King Allant but that's about it. The levels themselves can be pretty mean sometimes though. 3-2, 4-2, and all of 5 can be considered enough of a challenge for a first playthrough.
