Why did it fail?
>>
>>330721885
It didn't. It was a successful scam.
>>
>>330721885
No games that made you really want the console
>>
It's a pointless piece of garbage
>>
>>330721885
Can't run emulators.
>>
>Really bad interface.
>Shit controller
>Really bad specs that were outdated before it came out.
>Bad design to make it look "hip" which instead severely limited it.
>Made it fairly obnoxious to mod and do stuff with it despite it being one of the core focuses.
>Shit support for multimedia unless you sideload.
>People were expecting high level stuff like CoD or Skyrim. Admittedly not its fault, but there are android tablets that can now do stuff along those lines (Not quite skyrim, but still).
>Poor marketing
>Disillusioned CEO and staff that had no fucking idea what they were doing. Questionably a scam by the CEO.
>"original games" that were created for it were bottom of the barrel stuff that you would expect from steam greenlight.

And so on. I like how NVIDIA came out with the NVIDIA Shield and more or less did everything right that Ouya fucked up.

Considering the shitty hardware, it did rather well.
>>
>>330721885
The awkward niche between mobile phones and consoles just isn't big enough. Even companies that have a strong digital distribution service before the hardware necessary to bring it to the TV struggle to push existing consoles out of the way, and for the most part, they know that they'd rather partner with console makers and focus on their services instead of trying to compete in hardware.

the housing was poorly designed, the device had problems with security, the controller was cheap and broke or wore out quickly, and finally the target audience was all wrong because nobody who wanted to play the games it could run wanted to play those games on the platform the device operated on IE, mobile gamers didn't want to game on the tv. Games regular gamers wanted to play already ran well enough on other platforms.
>>
>>330721885
Who really wants yet another console?
>>
>>330721885
A woman was in charge
>>
If I remember correctly the two selling points where:
>phone games on TV
>open platform for developers

The first reason is fucking stupid but possible anyway
The second reason is already accomplished by the PC market

Basically it didn't fill any niche.

I'd like to think it was just people completely high off how crazy kickstarter was at the time and venting that hype into this shitbox.

No library of games at all

Why the fuck someone would buy a console for android games?

Why did people think it had a chance in the first place?

The company pushing this thing had no real business model. Somehow they were going to let users treat the thing as a rom and bootleg machine while giving them the option to pay for stuff and this would somehow make a profit. How many actual businesses could make payroll on what is essentially a tip jar?

>>330722831
Nailed everything wrong with the execution. Even if it didn't suck, the Ouya would still sink.
>>
So was this shit really a scam? Did the founders make any money when they got out of it or was it just a failure all around?
>>
>>330722075
Now I'm curious, did anyone make money off this?

The CEO gets completely BTFO. Should have resigned on the spot.
>>
>>330721885
It had no reason to succeed.
