Depends. If you are desperate right now and need a GPU to play games 1080 - go for it. It will last you long time.
If you can wait six months - just wait for next gen shit and see if you can afford it/price drops on past generation.
>>
>>330687494
I bought this exact card and loving it so far, temps are pretty high though but supposedly this card can run fine at like 90c so... Waiting for pascal like other anon said is pretty solid advice too though but we don't even know anything about the prices yet.

Wait till summer, we should see a price drop on both AMD and Nvidia chipsets.

>>330688026
This. I'm waiting for nextgen so I can buy a 980ti, I was actually thinking of the FuryX, but the 980ti actually outperforms it at the same price point, probably because HBM is so new and no one knows how to make a good GPU around it yet.

I'm a fan of nVidia but why.
>>
>>330688357
You have to understand that technically, this is exactly how it works, right? New stuff gets released pretty often, so you step back and look at the big picture - is it time to get that upgrade right now, or should you wait?
I mean, it is up to you to decide in the end. No need to blame anyone else.
>>
>>330688039
waitfags are idiots. By the time summer rolls around and you ask them, they'll tell you to wait for the next one. They repeat this wait bullshit and never get anything ever.

At this point, the 390 really is the bigger meme card.

Not our fucking fault that Nvidia keeps stalling and AMD are struggling to implement new tech efficiently, cause they're broke.
>>330688538
Really, I mean the internet at large just shills the 980ti and I am looking at a card in the 650 bucks range, it seems to do well in benchmarks and runs everything at max at 1080p60fps, which is what I'm going to be using it for. My idea is to not buy another card for a few years and just OC this later when I save some money for another water cooler.

>>330688832
Go Sapphire for AMD, nothing more to it.
>>
>>330687494
Just wait for the new cards and either buy one of those or the current cards with drastically reduced prices
>>
I'm have become a Nvididrone
because if you are the guy in your circle of friends that gets called if someone has Pc problems you see a lot of dead amd cards and even more how shit their drivers are in the long run - while i never had a problem with my nvidia cards.
It's just i bias i got out of experience repairing a lot of my friends rigs over the years.
But hey if you plan on getting a new Gfx card every year, go for amd, they or their driver support usually dies at the 1,5 year mark.
>>
>>330688945
MSi is the best for AMD this gen. Sapphire is safe bet, usually they fucked up several times.
>>
>>330689027
>Nvidia cards last longer
Tell that to the owners of Kepler cards.
>>
>>330689027
I think most older folk are.

I loved my ATi cards, but once AMD bought them out the GPUs and drivers got progressively worse for me. Switched to nVidia and I've never had problems since.
>>
Are there any cards I can buy without falling for some nefarious meme? Voodoo2 should be fine right?
I just don't like getting tricked.
>>
>>330689084
MSi is fedora tier. Only thing going for it is the red theme.
>>
>>330688929

Amd should have no driver AND be on fire, while one of nvidia's wheels is missing
>>
I thought 3.5GB was the meme card.
>>
>>330687494
Yes, or wait for Polaris.
>>
>>330689489
Naw bro, MSi has amazing customer support. Shipped me a DOA card, didn't even have to explain it to the rep. Just said "shit's dead" and I sent it off for a replacement, didn't need the original box or anything.
>>
>>330689084

MSI's average temps under load are ~72C.
Sapphire's is 63C.

In terms of the 390 there's three choices - the Sapphire rev 2.0 because it's the coolest or ASUS/MSI because they stay silent when under 67C. ASUS/MSI max temps are fucking high though.
>>
>>330688926
if all you want is 1080 then a 980ti more than capable to do that. from all the different benchmarks that came out after the fury x was released showed that it was better and doing 1440p and up better than the 980ti or nearly on par.
>>
>>330689683
Hearing that i'll have to give it some more respect. Maybe i'll check MSi better next time i buy an AMD card.
>>
>>330689276
I don't say that nvidia never releases shit, only that in my experience you have fewer problems with nvidia cards on the long run, especially on the driver part.

Before i upgraded i had a 560ti, the card still works and is tucked away for emergencies.
My friend who against my advice wanted a amd card got a PS4 because his card died after 1.5 years.
So AMD creates console users.
>>
>>330689340
>loved my ATi cards, but once AMD bought them out the GPUs and drivers got progressively worse for me
Are you serious? You can't possibly think ATI drivers back in the 7000/8000/9000 era a decade ago were better than current ones.
>>
>>330690110
I want 1080p with at least a few years lifespan at High with 60fps stable. I don't like the idea of a Titan because the 1k price point is always heavily overpriced and usually gets nearly matched with the final revisions in a particular series. Could you explain about the problem with the 980ti that you mentioned?
>>
>>330687494
Get the Sapphire version, the stock coolers are shit. Otherwise a very neat card.
>>
>>330690367
>his card died after 1.5 years
How the fuck does this shit happen?
Is he just mashing his god damn head on the overclocking controls?
I'm starting to think some of you people are friends with apes.
>>
>>330687787
Now this is the true meme right here
>>
>>330690425
well the 980ti IS a gimped titanx but not by much. Really nvidia releasing the 980ti like two months after the titanx was a dick move. theres no real issue with the 980ti its just the way the boards are made and the type of memory it has is different from the furyx. theres no real downside to getting either its just dependent on what your setup is like and what brand you'd rather support. pretty much either ones good.

Realistically, what's the point of being anti-Nvidia other than ethics? If the market is rigged to make things play like shit on AMD cards why would anyone buy one instead of playing it safe with an Nvidia card? I'm not shilling or picking a side, I'm just curious.
>>
>>330690369
I had zero issues with my old ATi drivers vs after the AMD buyout where I encountered a myriad of issues both hardware and software.
>>
>>330690425
It's a shitty time to change Gfx cards anyway - the progress in speed wasn't that impressive the last years, i would wait for the next generation, will be better for your performance and for your bank account.

>>330690668
I honestly don't know. But people with 0 experience in tech all tend to be DAUs
>>
>>330690835
They eventually get fixed on AMD. Week or so.
Nvidia fucks up the lauunch to look good at the benchmarks, once AMD fixes the mess, it has better performance.
>>
>>330690835
Because people who can only afford budget cards need justifcation.

Lately, it's been the ever-noble "I'm saving the industry" schtick.
>>
>>330690835
something about not letting nvidia having a monopoly and amd getting money from the guberment to not die
>>
>>330690835
Because NVIDIA drops driver support for current gen cards once the next series releases. Look what happened to the 780 and what is happening to the 970/980 now.
>>
>>330690835

a) a monopolized market will equal shit for everyone - look at the CPU market
b) nvidia tends to fuck over their previous gen users if they release a new architecture (look at kepler), and looking at the 970 and how its vram is already being a bottleneck for a lot of AAA games it's definitely going to happen this year as well, with a lot of 970 users suddenly having a serious vram problem
c) proper async compute on AMD cards since the 7870
d) freesync is cheaper than gsync
>>
>>330690778
I'd rather support AMD, I prefer the fact that they're trying to innovate and that they're offering a card at the 650 price point that comes with an AIO Water Cooler, this automatically makes it a bit cheaper than the 980ti, but it can't be overclocked much, if at all and I'm worried as to it's lifespan for 1080p60fps, especially considering that it underperforms at 1080p.
I have no interest in meme resolutions like 1440p or 4k, 1080p looks just fine to me and even if a game has shitty AA, I can always just inject some SMAA with SweetFX, which always looks good with next to no performance hit.
With the small amount of research that I've done into these cards, it seems like the 980ti is just the smarter purchase. It remains to be seen how native DX12 games affect the FuryX's performance.
>>
>>330687494
just fucking wait m8. Pascal/Polaris are out soon and even if they don't live up to the hype you'll still see a nice price drop for this gen
>>
>>330691293
AMD does the same thing.

Only reason you see lower performance in Gameworks titles is because Maxwell is much more efficient at processing tessellation compared to Kepler.
>>
>>330690835
NVIDIA really hasn't released any worthwhile cards since the 8800/9800.
>>
>>330687787
This.

>If the market is rigged to make things play like shit on AMD cards why would anyone buy one instead of playing it safe with an Nvidia card?
Intel did the same shit with their compilers, making them compile code that worked like shit on AMD. Fortunately people weren't as retarded as you seem to be and didn't fall for it.

Do you know what happens when a company gets no competition? Things like Intel planning Netburst to last for 10 more years than it was intended to, things like AMD not bothering to come up with something good after K8 was so successful and letting Intel get the upper hand, and now things like Intel barely improving since Sandy Bridge.

If people ten years ago had followed you shitty philosophy, nobody would have bought AMD's K8 and now we would be "enjoying" the second decade of neverending Pentium 4 netburst refreshes.
If people follow it now, the same will happen with Nvidia.
>>
I want off the Nvidia train because their business practices with the 970 and the whole Gameworks thing is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

But my problem is it seems like a lot of little things are more in favor of Nvidia.
Like Skyrim for example. I know it's a shit game, but it's relaxing to play with loadsamods.
The one thing is using ENB, and apparently the ENB dev doesn't like AMD stuff so it may or may not work at all.

I'm fine with the whole "no drivers lol" thing if it just means that a new game won't work right out of the box day one. If it's a matter of a driver release after a week or so, I'm fine with.

I know, >Skyrim, >ENB, >lol, but mods not working properly for an AMD card is what's keeping me from switching over.

PS. how well does skyrim run on a card with 6 - 8 GB of VRAM? Currently running a 680GTX now and, with mods, it's running around the 45 FPS mark
>>
>>330692362

AMD GPUs is outright better right now if you don't want to go with 980ti\TitanX or have some sick deal on nVidia cards.

There are few exceptions, like Project CARS, but almost all recently released games by this point run better on AMD cards in same price category
