9fags are obnoxious as fuck just because 9 was the last mainline FF to follow the world map with ATB menu set up they spout their "9 was le last true FF!?" memes, also while ignoring that 9 was originally a spinoff to begin with, probably trying to overcompensate for 9 selling the lowest out of any post 7 mainline FF and actually being a bland forgettable game.

IIRC, I played until disc three. The beginning was horrible, Vivi was the only interesting character in the group, combat was tedious, and the pacing was just awful. I mean, shit, I really tried to like it, but one day I just put it down and stopped playing.

This. IX is my favorite as well and I couldn't care less if people prefer another one. I normally don't lurk FF threads but in real life I know two guys who really "like the series" (and only have played VII, VIII, IX and X) and they are fucking annoying, always trying to convince people to like their favorite FF. When it comes to being hostile, I feel like it depends on the times. Right now, because FF has been in the shitter for so long, FF9fags are the most hostile by far, because they believe their game was the last cry of "oldschool" Final Fantasy games, even though it's not.
Eventually bullying FF9 will become the status quo, and people will start parroting opinions that have been repeated for years, despite not even playing the game. "Zidane is emo" will become a meme, just like it happened with Cloud and Squall.

The problem with FF6fags shitting on those games is that FF6 is the literal reason those games exist. FF7 in particular is fucking 6 2.0, where they took what they learned from what did and didn't work with Espers and made a new system around it, reworked desperation attacks into something that's useful and that you see more than once in a blue moon, and generally took the same approach to story, difficulty, and enemy design that 6 did, just with better technology backing it up.
