Good for him. The bad news is is that every mission is almost a copy paste of the last guy (Granted an issue through out the entire series but very pronounces in AC1). AC2 builds upon what they had in every way and is the better game because of it.
Spite all this I do want to go back and replay AC1 because knowing what I know now I expect a lot of the intertwined history to make much more sense.

Hard to say if AC1 is the best, but Altair's outfit certainly looks the coolest no question about it.
I've only played 1 and a few hours of 2, so I can't really comment on the series as a whole.
When I was playing 1 I found the repeating missions a wee bit tedious, but when I started 2 I actually missed playing 1. Not sure what that says about me.
I should go back and play the series.

Patrice Desilet was the reason Assassin's Creed was good. His original story was supposed to be a trilogy where Desmond actually uses the animus to learn the secret's of his ancestors and have it actually culminate into something meaningful. Ubisoft wanted to create a yearly franchise out of it though.

I remember when AC1 came out.
I loved it because it combined the movement from PoP in an open world. I enjoyed the fuck out of it, I think I beat the game 3 times, comfy city.

I agree. It had the deepest combat, too. You had to be ready to press either the dodge, counter or grab break button, and any enemy could do those attacks. In AC2, it's just counter or dodge, and you only ever need to dodge with brutes while only agiles ever dodge.

They removed combo kill timing and slow attacks from AC2, along with enemy grabs. The combat was downgraded for the sake of making you feel powerful. You were so OP that they had to force stealth requirements on missions to make you not kill all the guards. This made missions less free to approach from different angles.

You'd think so, but all the guards could do things like slow attacks, to fake you out. They could also do break defenses and grabs. You started with like 5 hitpoints and a strong guard could take that all out with a combo.

it was really original. there was really nothing like it when it came out. that whole crusades setting was so interesting to me and all those cities and crowds, riding your horse from city to city.

For Templars you literally just stab them the instant you start with the hidden blade since they have to unsheathe before they can even block, or you could counter grab and stab them on the ground for the half a second they're on it.
