They're not even competitors. They make weak hardware and gimmicks. The Wii U is a side console. People may or may not buy it to compliment their PC, PS4, or Xbox One. I have one, and I love it. I play Smash almost every day. But it's in no way actually competing, and its gimmick is shit. I just let my gamepad go dead because I don't even care about the screen, the regular ass pro controller does it all. I don't own Splatoon, but all the game pad did for that was let you tap a point to jump to.

Their only arguable strength in the market are handhelds, but it's only due to Nintendo owning console-selling franchises (Pokemon, Mario). The Wii-U was quite the fuckup and living on milking Pokemon/Mario is not the most safe business strategy. He could at least be a little more humble about Nintendos fuckups.

yeah but when the tickets are like $3 and over half the seats are empty for the whole season it doesn't really seem as profitable as a mobbed key arena full of $100+ seats... seems like a pretty good investment especially from all the spillover tax on things like beer and hotel rooms

With baseball, everybody you bring in with a cheap seat is most likely buying food, too. There's just so much more foot traffic. It's really not comparable. Plus many baseball teams have incredibly lucrative local cable deals, if not outright owning all or a portion of the network they broadcast their games on. MLB also shares merchandise revenue between teams.

It's why baseball doesn't even bother with a salary cap or non-guaranteed contracts and has the highest average salary for all pro sports in the world. MLB also owns Advanced Media, which services digital media operations for many other companies and providers besides itself.
