MG1 doesn't hold a candle to it. I guess that the only thing I didn't like is how fucking much backtracking it has, and how level 5 cards don't open level 4 doors etc.

It's excellent. Top 3 Metal Gear game for me. It has its issues but there's a lot it does very well.
It was really good. First game wasn't that great, but MG2: SS was unexpectedly great. Better than TPP.

MG2 is much better than MGS1 or MGS3 in my opinion. I like MG1 more than MGS4 or PW, too, if we're being honest. That game has a lot of dumb shit but it doesn't annoy me so thoroughly as those two.
Overall (depending on my mood):
MG2 = MGS2 > GB > MGS3 > MGS1 > MG1 > PW > MGS4 > PO
Not sure where I'd put MGSV. I haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't care that much about it. Judging from what I've seen (which is most of the game, admittedly) it'd probably be between MGS1 and MG1.

Nah, I agree with PW being better than MGS4. PW's stealth is pretty shit (not that MGS4's is great) but it has a lot more variety and avoids the lows that MGS4 falls into. MGS4 has much better boss fights though.
Little things in the game struck that Japan 90's vibe without being vaporwave. Did a better job of representing the setting than TPP did.
