Do people still play this masterpiece? Or any of the sequels? Which one's your favourite? Mine either 1 or crusader 1

>Which one's your favourite? Mine either 1 or crusader 1
Thats not hard when all other games are crap.
>>330553149
Crusader was amazing, but I haven't played in years.
God I love it, I wish there was a skirmish mode in the first game, Crusader is great too but the desert setting hurts my eyes after a while. Nothing quite as comfy as building a quaint castle in the grassland setting
>>330553391
I thought 2 was okay, not nearly as good as the previous games but it was okay. I haven't put much time in Stronghold 3 but I still can't really think of any reason why they didn't include offline skirmish
>>330553149
Just one thing that's really annoying is how trees spread like cancer if you play for a long time, have to build twenty woodcutters to keep that shit from spreading
I liked Stronghold and Crusader when I was a kid.
I'd love to make a game with a really similar style and gameplay to Stronghold, but set in the American Old West where you start up a nice little frontier town. I'd definitely keep it 2D isometric though.
>>330553582
>God I love it, I wish there was a skirmish mode in the first game
totally, although in some ways I think stronghold 1 multiplayer is better than crusader, if only they would have added multiplayer AI
>>330553669
I made the map in the OP myself and it did not nearly have as many trees when I made it, still gives the game a nice and lively feel though.
The original Stronghold is the best, all though personally I prefer it when it and Crusaders gets fused into one through various mods.
I LIKED Stronghold 2, Just wish it wasn't a buggy broken mess, then again I'm a world builder so I would set up robber barons and plotlines and barbarian invasions in sandbox mode so w/e.
>>330554127
Yes, part of what made stronghold 2 so great was the freedom in creating custom missions and maps
>>330553669
I thought that was the comfiest shit when I played it over 10 years
>>330554127
>all though personally I prefer it when it and Crusaders gets fused into one through various mods.
This exists? I always wanted this but back in the day there was no such mod
>>330554240
Fairly certain, been a good while since I've dicked around with Stronghold so the few I do know probably died out in the depths of the internet.
Honestly I don't really like 1 and Crusader, I don't really get what all the hate is about for 2, I played the shit out of it.
>>330553149
legend is good,, the 3rd and crusader 2 are a shame
>>330554471
2 was amazing.
When it worked.
Sadly, it only worked 1/5 times for longer than half an hour.
>>330554597
What do you mean worked? Like crashing? I never had the problem, I guess though I first played it around 2008-2009ish, a few years after release.

>>330554473
Personally, I felt that Legends was just too small when it came to maps, and the way resources were done kinda forced everything to look so very crowded in the space you did have.
>>330554715
Even after it was released and went through a dozen patches Stronghold 2 broke itself obscenely often.
I have always wanted Stronghold 1/Crusaders 1 on the scale of Age of Empires / Empire Earth.
>>330555057
An interesting similarity between Stronghold 2 and Empire Earth 2 is that they both used a territory system
>>330556096
yeah but the maps were too small to make a good use of that I think
>>330556096
I liked the territory thing in EE2 but the building limit was too restrictive
>>330556915
also this

Battle for Middle Earth 2Majesty.
>>330557427Do you know the Age of Empires 2 LOTR mod?
>>330557738I know now.
Why is it that all the stronghold games after crusader aren't very good?
Is it really the 3D?
>>330557925
The 3D is a great thing.
I've played a lot of stronghold 2 actually.
It was fun
I tried to replay it a few days ago but then thieves stole half of my granary, pests ruined my crops completely and my villagers got the plague all within the first 5 minutes of the game. I don't remember the disaster RNG being this bullshit before
>>330553149
I do still play it from time to time, I love that game although I've nerver finished
>>330558224
Some older games have some problems with better hardware.
Let's take Fallout tactics for example, it was never meant to run on hardware even Toaster-mode counts as now, so playing it means it the RRNG systems run stupidly faster than the game itself and you can't walk 5 feet in the overworld without something happening.
>>330558224
The economic campaign is full of this, since well you have to have some kind of difficulty without having enemy invasions
>>330558345
I usually stop somewhere towards the middle of the combat campaign for no particular reason
>WOOD NEEDED
>>330557013
I never had problems with the build limit. Usually you would have enough territories so that it wasn't an issue
The balancing of resources, however, was a big problem in that game

I actually played both the first game and crusader recently out of nostalgia
free building in a desert map that has no room for food/wood, only stone or iron, was probably my favorite part

The secret is making good use of religion and inns, and simply not having any food production at all. This means you can have as many people as you like as long as you remember to build a new shrine and a new inn from time to time.

I wish the game had some actual scale in it. It fucking sucks when you build your stronghold and whoops it is parked an arrow shooting distance next to the enemy's
