>Hi Folks,

>Earlier this morning, Carbine Studios completed a reorganization of its operating structure. Moving forward, the studio will focus on operating and updating WildStar as a live game in the US and Europe. As part of this change, the studio has canceled its plans to bring WildStar to China.

>Unfortunately, as a result of these changes, we’ve had to reduce staff. These cuts are directly tied to WildStar’s evolution from a product in development to a live title, to the cancellation of work to bring WildStar to China, and to the overall performance of WildStar since launch in 2014.

>These kinds of decisions are exceptionally difficult. The talented and passionate professionals who are impacted by these cuts have been valuable team members and respected colleagues. We wish everyone well for the future and will be providing severance and employment search assistance.

>As for WildStar, we remain committed to the game. Over the next few weeks and months we will deliver a significant update to the game, kick off a variety of community events, and continue our work on new content that we will talk more about in the near future.

:^)

This. What is this thread what is wrong with you people i don't understand
>>
>>330554457

the gay tumblr artstyle is the main reason i stayed far away from it LOL.

OP is a fag as far as the title goes but Wildstar died because, while it seems neat at first, all it has going for it is the house system, and locking all of that behind a boring-as-fuck standard "go kill 20 wildlife then bring me 4 robot asses" quest and level cash-grind system wasn't anything new. The PVP was pure "move as a group and mow shit down" zerging too.

>hey lets make an MMO
>wait doesnt WOW just rape everyone trying to get into the bussiness?
>nah lets roll with it anyway
few years later
>fuck we have to fire everyone why did we get raped by wow

Nigga please, noone actually admits WoW exists, while they simultaneously try to BE WoW. "Aw it'll be easy, just copy the system wow uses and we'll be rich! Surely noone has tried this before, I mean, how many could have while we've had our heads buried in our asses all this time?"

I mean seriously nigga, every MMO thinks this, every MMO fails. P2P is dead except for WoW and FFXIV, and XIV's is partially a fluke, partially FF nostalgia capturing just enough niggas (and erpers on balmung) to have them bring their friends in for awhile.

I'll never understand their reasoning or lack thereof for making a new MMO half the time when noone tries anything new, let alone the dumbasses that're fucking stupid enough to think P2P still works with so many freebies out there.
>>
>>330555540
I wonder how long people will continue to pretend that MMO's that aim to be as big as "wow" are damned to failure without the unique factor of it being the early age of the internet, sheer amount of money and string pulling in marketing it, and outright lies told about how popular it really is?

An MMO only has to do 4 things to be an actual real world measurable success.

Run on a shitload of systems
Have a niche that pulls in players(animal sim game, sci-fi, a highschool second life type thing for the phones with a persona ish twist, a porn sim)
Aim for a modest number to be successful
Baby the whales, lure in the newfish with shiny bait, and keep everything running smoothly
Market it well

That's it.
Making something that needs a 1k system to even boot is retarded. Making something that is a copy of something that is in reality not that popular in the first place, wow, and hoping that it takes off is retarded.
It's just..a lot of stupid MMOs out there.
And half of them I think were designed to fail just so they have a way to launder/embezzle money.

People still don't get that WoW was a fluke.
LoL was also a fluke.

One game gets lucky then you have a torrent of "WE can do that better!".

When will they learn that quality plays no role in determining the success of a product?

Innovation instead of replication. However that's difficult and risky because it requires creativity and ingenuity.

So you keep getting these clones with a new coat of paint every few years, they fail to make the money WoW made, because it's about luck, and the genre keeps getting watered down with no change in sight.

Nobody is surprised. Nobody is shocked. Nobody cares anymore.

a lot of MMOs already try that. Most games already run no a toaster held together with tape.
A lot of MMOs have a niche
A lot of MMOs aim for a modest number
A lot of MMOs baby the whales and lure the newfish with bait (usually F2P once things go south) and hell they market it everywhere.

Tera, a bit harsh on a computer, but it has a unique thing (REAL ACTION COMBAT), aimed for a modest number, advertised everywhere and died.

SWTOR was easy to run, a niche to pull people in (lightsaber shit) and while it did aim high it didnt hit that mark by far.

Wildstar had a lot of delayed attacks you had to dodge, was easy on the system, had a lot of marketing CG movies, babied whales and lured newcomers.
Failed

Point is, old players rather stick with their old game since they get babied there, have their items there and have friends there. The new game being the same but with a twist is not what they want. The twist doesnt weigh up against the costs of abandoning your old game. Aiming for a modest playerbase doesnt change jack either. They still need a big team to make content and keep everything running.

You act like this is never tried but this is literally how all the WOWclones are made. They go to the suits, say, this is WOW but then with a twist that will pull everoyne in, then they crash and burn after a big marketing campaign and wonder why people didnt all drop wow to go for their game

Being WoW wasn't the problem. It being technically broken and taking the worst aspects of vanilla like attunement turned it into shit.

Not to mention "CUPCAKE!"
>>
>>330557185
>Wildstar
>easy on the system

Did you even PLAY the game? It was a fucking wreck as far as optimisation was concerned. Despite looking ugly people were struggling to get 40 frames on top tier cards even in fairly deserted areas.

The UI had a fucking massive memory leak. FOR MONTHS.

SWTOR was also another game that used way more resources than it should have for how fucking ugly it was. Mainly because Bioware were using an engine that wasn't even released at the time (and was the functional equivalent of RPG maker for MMOs)

Wildstar was good for community. You see the same people everyday and you get a group going and you start to know who is good and who isn't.

Then you realize actually trying to build groups with randoms is completely balls and pressing find dungeon is way easier. Then you die in heroics because every boss is a mini raid boss that actually takes skill.
