Way to post Breeze in Monochrome Night, by the way, it's easily the best song in any SH game. There's a lovely B-section in it that never saw the light of day ingame, but is really worth hearing. Genuinely great taste there, OP.

I wouldnt call them the best, as I think they do suffer in the gameplay aspect, I know its done the way it is to add more to the game, which all 3 do, but id probably put a more "fun" game as the best game ever.
Something like HL1/Deus Ex/Thief/SS2 would be my best because they get so much right, and have very good gameplay on top and a bigger focus.
But SH1-3 are easily right up top with them, that said, SH3 has some pretty great gameplay and bosses compared to 1 and 2(from a playability standpoint)

I like Fatal Frame 1 more than all 3 but SH1 comes in at a close second.

SH2 is the odd duck in the trilogy in that it's the most aesthetically affecting but with the exception of Toluca Prison and the Pyramid Head sections I feel like it has a hard time translating its sense of dread into genuine fear. With SH1 and 3, those games throw you into situations where it's simply better to run even if you're armed to the teeth like in SH1's otherworld town or any area with a pendelum in SH3. SH2 rarely ever makes that push but fuck if it doesn't have a way of making one's skin crawl. Gameplay-wise though, I'd have to say it's the least threatening of the 3, easily.

SH3 is only good game and the monsters are fucking stupid looking shit. They aren't scary at all. Just dumb and annoying. The story is decent and the only scary moment is when you get stuck in that room where everything goes black.

RE2 and 3 I can agree with in terms of gameplay, they are pretty fantastic to play and hold up really well today.

I find it hard to be actually scared playing video games even though I love horror. I think I'm more of a fan of the surreal/dream like aspects of horror.

Yeah I love surrealism a lot more, sadly very VERY few games even delve in it, and pretty much ALL the good ones are old point and clicks like Darkseed/Harvester/Phantamasgoria/and one that takes place in an insane asylum.

RE1 and REmake are the only honest to God balanced survival horror games in the series. RE2 is already something of an action game, Code Veronica is only slightly less action than RE2, RE3 might as well be RE4 with a classic RE control scheme and inventory, and Zero would be fine if it didn't have to load the player down with enough resources for two characters and then some. RE1 and REmake, however, are finely tuned in its balance of enemy positioning, resource allocation, and horror ambience in a way that few horror titles have matched.

We had some gaming marathons with my best friend till he passed away few years back.
We played through the weekends in autumn so it was all foggy every evening and night. Fucking loved Silent Hill 1-4, Fatal Frame 1-3 and Forbidden Sirens. Too bad i will never play with him again.
