Do you have one of these in your desktop?

If so, when's the last time you used it and what for?

ripping CDs to flac for uploading to waffles a week ago
>>
I use it often to rip music CDs onto my computer. Last time I used it, though, was last week trying to install Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption. Too bad I had to find a pirated copy of the GoG version so that it would work with Windows 7 since the installer kept crashing.
>>
>>330398001
Of course I have one in my desktop, why not? It's the cheapest part also. $10 for a dvd drive.

I have a best of Arlis dvd in it right now. thanks for reminding me, still need to finish the episods.

I mostly use it to rip old cds, or cds I pick up from goodwill.

I only use it to install Windows.
>>
I had the exact same CD drive for years, I pretty much only ever used it for ripping music CDs and installing Morrowind and RCT2.
>>
Used it last to rip a CD kek
>>
>>330398001
i just used it to install windows, thats the first time in years. it is currently unplugged so i can have more hdds
>>

>>

>>
>>330398001

It's alright. Mostly filler, with some real killers, and some real fuckin' losers

The best part of that whole album is it proves Mustaine still has riffs in the tank.
>>
I use it to play all the old games I have the original CDs for.
>>
I have several dozens of pirated PS2 games I just rip and put on my hdd so I can emulate them.

Remnants of when I was idort with a hdd loader.
>>
Yes.

Maybe a couple of months ago, I use it for burning Playstation 2 games and ripping doujin albums so I can listen to them in Foobar. It's better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it.

>>
>>330400271
Doujin albums? Is that like Japanese independent albums or is it like Touhou music? Or is it audiobook versions of doujinshi?
>>
>>330400420
Yeah, I couldn't remember how it went. Thanks.
>>330400594
It's both, I don't really buy or listen to Touhou music that much anymore.
>>
I have. Its fucked though can't boot from it or write dvds with it. I installed Far Cry 2 from it a month ago.

>own modded PS1 and a Dreamcast
>download and burn games occasionally

>>330398958
You know you can just use a usb drive, right? You don't even need any special software on linux, just dd the .iso onto /dev/sdwhatever. Much easier and faster than burning a DVD.
>>
>>330401665
>not using a 3.0/tb

What fucking faggot does this?
>>
>>330401818
Someone without 3.0 ports
>>
Not really. I've got a laptop with a DVD drive if I need to rip something. Otherwise, I use it to play the old Tony Hawk games.
>>
To burn AA2 DVD disks

I do, but I've been using the same one for a decade that move from build to build.

I use it when I'm too lazy to look up drivers on some obscure chink device that I got from amazon for $3.

Have a blu-ray drive, it's nice for ripping high quality movies and cds and junk, have also used it for miscellaneous projects

I have a whole bunch of old PC games on discs. Maybe I will replay them someday.
>>
>>330398001
I still use it for physical albums and games that I buy here and there.
>>
I think either installing cubase or avid. About two weeks back. Might burn something later.
>>
>>330398001
Yeah, I do. I rip music and CD/DVD based games since my internet is slow so ripping is faster.
>>
I use it for Gparted and installing new Linux distros to try out. I have a couple usb flash drives but I can't be assed to reformat and burn every time.
>>
>>330398001
Burn audio CD's for listening to in my car, which is fifteen years old.
>>
ive got a blu ray drive so i use it to watch movies
>>
I have two. I last used one of them about a week ago to rip a CD.
>>
I bought a case that doesn't even have a slot for one, I haven't really needed one in years

When I set this PC up I just used my laptop and its disc drive to transfer the files from the driver CDs onto a flash drive and install them that way and that was the first time in like three years that I opened the laptop's CD drive on purpose
>>
>>330398001
Yes, I have a BD-R/W.

Last thing I used it for was to check the integrity of some old Command and Conquer discs I put up for sale on ebay.
>>
Had to use it for my router disc a few days ago. Before that I used it to install windows and new vegas.
>>
I've got a BD R/W, I don't use it terribly often but it really comes in handy every now and then if I want to watch or rip a movie, or something like that. My car is older and only has a broken tape deck and old CD player in it, so I'll burn CDs for road trips.
>>
>>330398001
I have a laptop to rip disks, why would I need it on my desktop
>>
I have an H440, no disc drive here.
>>
>>330398001
i used it to install windows
im going to unhook it so i can plug in a new harddrive
>>
Burning CD's.

Haven't used it for anything other than that in probably around a decade.
>>
Burned an ELO album that I had ripped from vinyl
>>
I installed Fallout 4 with it because the Steam servers were shitting themselves on launch day.

Since then, I looked at backups of old porn I had.

Some still pretty fapworthy
>>
I used it back in June when my Puni came in the mail. It included a CD with some nice artwork which made fucking it more easier.
