I use it often to rip music CDs onto my computer. Last time I used it, though, was last week trying to install Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption. Too bad I had to find a pirated copy of the GoG version so that it would work with Windows 7 since the installer kept crashing.

You know you can just use a usb drive, right? You don't even need any special software on linux, just dd the .iso onto /dev/sdwhatever. Much easier and faster than burning a DVD.

Not really. I've got a laptop with a DVD drive if I need to rip something. Otherwise, I use it to play the old Tony Hawk games.

When I set this PC up I just used my laptop and its disc drive to transfer the files from the driver CDs onto a flash drive and install them that way and that was the first time in like three years that I opened the laptop's CD drive on purpose

Last thing I used it for was to check the integrity of some old Command and Conquer discs I put up for sale on ebay.
Had to use it for my router disc a few days ago. Before that I used it to install windows and new vegas.
I've got a BD R/W, I don't use it terribly often but it really comes in handy every now and then if I want to watch or rip a movie, or something like that. My car is older and only has a broken tape deck and old CD player in it, so I'll burn CDs for road trips.
