Why do libertarians hate this game so much?
>>
>>330365671

Because Rapture was a perfect libertarian world of course
>>
>>330365671
What does it have to do with libertarianism? I'm libertarian and I don't hate this game.
>>
im a libertarian just not an ancap and i liked it
>>
Because it's a shitty "spiritual successor" to System Shock.
>>
>>330365814
it's a critique of anarcho-capitalism
>>
>>330365998
libertarianism =/= ancap

also not every ancap takes it to the extreme either
>>
>>330365671
>create libertarian utopia
>some business jockey fakes his death
>pins it on the founder of the utopia
>starts a civil war under an alias
everything goes to shit because one guy wanted to control the people. it's a perfect example of both why a libertarian society is the perfect society, yet can never work due to human nature.
>>
>>330365671
Libertarians have trouble understanding the plot because it was not made by the free market
>>
>>330365671
Because it's an obvious critique of Ayn Rand's Objectivist philosophy which has many parallels with American libertarianism.

It's even in Andrew Ryan's own name.
>>
>>330366316
>>some business jockey fakes his death
>>pins it on the founder of the utopia
Well to be fair, the founder of the utopia was trying to kill him.
>>
>>330366710
took me way too long to get that andrew ryan = ayn rand
>>
>ban certain items like bibles
>this creates a black market that funds opposition
Better luck next time Andrew Ryan.
>>
>>330365671
Bioshock actually makes my libertarian dick hard.

Their "critique" of Ayn Rand is laughable at best. So what bunch of liberal idiots made the Rapture fail? Just ignore their shitty leftist agenda and the game works great as a celebration of objectivism. If Andrew Ryan really built the Rapture it would work just fine.
>>
I really don't understand the praise this game gets

The setting is cool but the gameplay is completely mediocre
>>
was that the game that had to option to turn down the graphics to run at 60fps on consoles?
>>
>>330368065
>consoles
>giving users choice
good one anon
>>
>>330365671
But it's one of my favorites?
>>330366710
Objectivism is child's play. Objectivism is actually pretty incongruous with Libertarianism, problem is most "liberatarians", haven't actually read Rand or Nozick, so they don't know what they're talking about outside of "muh states' rights"

They couldn't make a game that really followed Rand's "teachings" because it would make no fucking sense.
In her books the best profit-making CEOs are taken off to live in a wonderful utopia. Literally just the CEOs. Imagine a city that has nothing but leaders in it, how would that even function? No one to clean the roads, no one to grow crops, and no one for all the leaders to lead.

If they'd made Rapture match what Ayn Rand described it would just be absurd bullshit.

Bioshock was a masterpiece. I wrote my college thesis on the piece and why it's a brilliant reflection of how the video game genre can be used as a storytelling medium in ways other genres can't.
>>
>>330365671
I personally found the game a poor criticism of Objectivism.

>>330367979
Good setting and good twist.
>>
>>330369093
Are you serious? There's so much wrong in Bioshock for why Rand would have a hissy fit to a ridiculous degree.
>just CEO went to the utopia
At least read what you're criticizing.

The reason Rapture went to shit was because there was no government. Rand advocated a small government, not a removal of government entirely. Laisser-faire capitalism but with the state still having judicial and an army and police to maintain order. In Rapture, the police was controlled by Andrew Ryan which Rand would bitch endlessly about since there is no effective state in Rapture.

Then there's Andrew murdering someone for sleeping with someone else, which mirrors what Rand did herself with Peikoff (she saw him as an equal, he started sleeping with clients using her philosophy and then made her cult shit on him even though he helped her for years). The fact that Andrew murdered someone when Rand bitched endlessly how violence is bad over and over is just pathetic.
>what if Objectivist didn't follow Rand's intent and DID murder??
Amazing.

The obvious flaw of Objectivism, which the game goes into, is that the philosophy cannot stop people from ignoring its principles and corrupt it with their own happiness. To destroy the happiness of others is your own pleasure and goal in life. But that's the same utility monster problem for utilitarians and isn't a central problem for Objectivism.
>>
Only right-libertarians hate this because muh Ayn Rand

I'd put Ayn Rand in the Libertarian Capitalism. She was never an an cap even though everyone parrots that she was.

I think it was more a criticism of Rand hating religion but I doubt she would ban the bible in any way. How can you claim to have a free market is it's not free? If people want to buy the bible, people will sell the bible.

>>330373080
So pure she was an embarrassment. iirc his favorite movie is the Fountainhead.

You fucked up man
>>
>>330373259
So long as there's an actual government, it would.
>>
>>330367659
Apparently, Ken Levine wrote Bioshock more as a celebration of Objectivism than a criticism but I doubt it did that.
