AMD needs to get their drivers optimized and in shape when they launch a new gen, not half a year after that. If games back in June 2015 showed numbers like the ones from the Crimson driver series the GPU market share would be different now.
To compete with a 980 you used to need a 390x. Now a 390 suffices. Hopefully AMD gets it right with Polaris at launch.
