Plutia makes the starting a bit easier, and her SP abilities are a bit OP.

1. Story is.. okay. Characters contains only boobs, but.. okay.
2. Battle-system is terribly designed and unbalanced. There is so many buttons and ways to win, you may think. But now, you just grind "special attack meter" while pushing one button and then you execute it.
3. Grinding in single-player game should not exist. Actually, game is pretty short and can be finished fast, but you have to click X billion times.
TLDR:
Cute in appearance, rotten inside.
Unless someone is paying you to get it then save your money and emulate a good jrpg.

It is a game about grinding. Not to advance the story but so that you become strong enough to grind in other locations. Grinding is the gameplay. The is nothing else to get from the game. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The story is only vaguely entertaining if you understand the references and can put up with the memes.

I've gotten to the third or fourth chapter, and I thought it was alright. A few parts of the game (the bosses) pissed me off because apparently you need to grind in order to not get absolutely destroyed, but I cheesed them with the DLC characters, so it's not impossible to avoid the grind. The game is kind of fun overall, though, and I like the positional combat to an extent. Having to fidget around until you get all of the opponents in an attack is kind of annoying. Characters also get a little annoying. Game is worth $6.

Rotating a character to target multiple enemies is more precise with a mouse, switching targets for targeted skills is easier with a gamepad unless you rebind it closer to WASD (it's on ↓↑ by default). You'll actually have to rebind quite a few commands to make it comfortable.

What is so good about Megadimension VII? I tried Neptunia 2, Re:Birth 1, didn't really care for either of them.

I haven't played any of the others, but VII is fun to me. I'm not sure why. It's not very good, but the characters are charming, there wasn't any grind, there were enough side distractions to keep me interested.
