>The PU's are hypothetical. They don't actually exist. The graphics see the map as being infinitely big, but the physics have a maximum capacity for mario's position. In any fixed length variable, when a number exceeds its maximum, it rolls over to zero. So while the graphics can place mario anywhere, even in the empty nothingness, the physics think he's on the original map, because his coordinates overflowed. So it's not that he's actually in a parallel universe. The concept of a PU is just used to give a better understanding of the topic. In reality, all of those parallel universes are just empty space. But the physics don't know he's left the map, so they act like he just wrapped to the other side, like in pac-man when you tunnel through the right edge of the map and end up on the left edge.
