How do you feel about digital only games?
>>
Wasn't it a thing you need to have English VO in order to get your game rated for retail in US? Maybe I'm thinking about something else.
>>
>>330220893
> if you don't believe in your product enough to physically release it in the west, it must not be very good
That statement is horseshit and you know it.
>>
>>330221107
>Wasn't it a thing you need to have English VO in order to get your game rated for retail in US?
No. Deception IV has Japanese VA.

And that is hilarious, Zelda has mumblish voices and it gets rated for retail
>>
>>330221294
Why is it horse shit?
>>
I'm cool with them. Kinda feel for the weebs who I'm sure would love to get those vita Atelier games physical though.
>>
>>330220893
>Battle Princess
Isn't that old?
>Ray Gigant
Yeah, I'm pissed about that one.
>>
>>330220893
>How do you feel about digital only games?

its all I've been buying for probably the last decade

do you even have an optical drive anymore?

Logistical costs. It's pretty obvious these games are made on a tight budget. Although honestly, I could see something like Oreshika actually selling pretty decently. Also, Vita is fucking dead in the west.
>>
>>330221485
>getting that varied family members

not for couple of generations. sadly I used my picture and ended up with potato-face characters for a while. fate is a cruel mistress.

Given I have over 30 TB of anime on disc yes

Is ANY of these getting retail release?
>>
>>330220893
I prefer not to have them. I tend to pass over them, unless I really want them and they happen to be on sale.
>>
>>330221657
>Demon Gaze 2
Likely.
>The other 2
Iunno.
>>
>>330221485
The paradox is though that these weeb games make a lot of money on special editions that are collectable with a bunch of extra junk that comes with it. And you can't do that on a digital only game. So you save on printing costs but yet...you lose your big chance to get say 1000 sales of 60-100 bucks each from rabid collectors
>>
>>330221485
but is it any good? seen it on couple of sales but always passed it by.
>>
>>330221657
Stranger of Sword City is getting retail. Probably not at real stores since mostly those only stock dudebro slop anyway but online definitely.
>>
>>330221657
DG has been out for two years and SoSC is getting physical.
Ray Gigant has a different publisher though,
>>
>>330221748
It got pretty good reception.
>>
>>330221364
Look at the games in that fucking image. They're niche as can be, it makes no fucking sense to waste the time and money producing physical copies, securing shelf space, and shipping it across seas.
It is so much easier to just release titles like that digitally, and it makes sense money wise. If it weren't for the digital marketplace, we wouldn't have half of the niche jap titles we have nowadays
>>
>>330221657
Stranger of sword city is getting a physical English release next month
>>
>>330221657
Probably. DRPG is probably the strongest genre on Vita and likely only games retail might stock. For online order, at least. Also Amazon.co.jp is shipping internationally as of late so if any games comes with English script option you can get it that way.
>>
>>330221807
>half
More like 5%, none of which I play because they're digital.
>>
>>330220893
It doesn't matter because Vita apparently has made digital sales and customer retention. Basically, most people are used to digital by now.

Oh wait...

If you own a console you SHOULD be against.

Unless you want a Steam box, that is.
>>
>>330221807
Anon, very few Japanese titles are digital only really. It's pretty rare.
>>
>>330221794
He probably means Demon Gaze 2
>>
>>330222073
Because digital in general hasn't caught on in Japan and not just with video games. In practice NEETs don't have credit cards to buy shit with so god old cash is still how business is done over there.
>>
>>330222132

Do you know what a debit card is?

Nigga, the 16 bit era was so different you can barely even compare.
>>
>>330222267
wut
>>
>>330222279
You're right, in the 16 bit era, cart costs were through the fucking roof and made up a huge percentage of the cost of the game while now the BD is 1 dollar or so. So that's why games like Hagane never came over becOh wait
>>
>>330222073
Man, it just makes sense for games that have tight as fuck budgets to release digitally, at least in my mind it does.
Would I rather have physical copies of everything? Fuck yes, but I still bought Ace Attorney 5, Ys forest of celceta, nepneps
>>
Physical only for me.

Sole reason I don't PC game aside from a few titles. Digital games won't be around in 30 years.
>>
>>330222468
It helps the publisher. No one else. Do you want to be able to play your game in 20 years? Then yeah you should be rooting for physical no matter what or else demand they release the game DRM free in a way you can back it up and put it on your console yourself and have it work fine.
>>
>>330220893
I'm perfectly fine with them, it's especially convenient for me since I have two PCs
>>
>>330222389
Are you going to ignore all the shit that wasn't released west side?
You can cherry pick all day
>>
>>330222389

There was a much smaller market and your only factor for huge sales was getting noticed on shelf space. Everybody wanted to take the risk back then and pay the cost of manufacturing, whereas these days it's virtually worthless, you literal retard
>>
>>330222534
Are my harddisks going to evaporate or something
>>
The possibility of digital only releases encouraging and enabling a niche market to reach its customers is great.
>>
>>330222665
Most HDDs have a shit lifespan, so pretty much. Much shorter than disks.
>>
>>330222609
There's a lot of shit that doesn't get released state side now either
>>
>>330220893
It'd be much more convenient but, funny enough, video game industry can't into digital distribution. They could learn a thing or two from the music industry about this.
>>
>>330222691
>niche market to reach its customers
You really have no idea what you are talking about and this sealed it.
>>
>>330222759
What if I make backups
They're cheap nowadays and SSDs are getting cheaper also
>>
>>330222627
And yet they took risks with a game named Hagane with a Japanese letter on the front. Nah, I don't think they thought it would sell like Mario or Zelda.
>>
>>330222601
One for NSAdows 10 and one for 7 eh?
>>
>>330222665
Well, heres my personal anecdote.
>Bought some DLC on Xbox.
>Xbox shut down.
>Hard disc broke.
>Can't get DLC.

Imagine that except with full games.

I can't wait for the butthurt when we lose our 360/PS3 purchases.
>>
>>330223052
One is for my front of being an upstanding citizien, one is for my super secret itdenntity of being an anonymoose hack0r
>>
>>330223132
>xbox
But anon I'm playing on a PC
>>
>>330223243
When people talk about digital being shit you just assume they mean console. Digital isn't shit on PC unless it's got some horrible DRM that can't be cracked
>>
>>330223313
You'd think that but I've seen plenty of people argue against digital games on PCs for some reason
>>
>>330223493
The main issue I can think of is that cracks disappear and if Steam were to implode in 15 years you likely won't be able to find cracks for a lot of the more obscure games in your library
>>
>>330223654
Well, torrents are usually pretty good about providing obscure content, all it needs is a place where people can post torrent links to their steam game cracks, and since the platform has so many users I can easily imagine that popping up
>>
Only thing that sucks about digital only is that you can't screw over shitty publishers with 2nd-hand purchases
>>
>>330224260
You can pirate unless.......D-d-dENUVO
>>
>>330220893
Not bad, I buy vidya to play them, not to collect.
>>
Oreshika was a great game but with how borderline niche it was I understand with it not being physical here.
>>
>>330220893
I only buy digital on PC. That way I know that if whatever marketplace I buy from dies, i can just pirate it to retain my purchase. A digital only console is the most anti-consumer thing that I can think of.
>>
>>330226243
>A digital only console is the most anti-consumer thing that I can think of.

This. PCs can still play old games after 20 years, but when a new console comes what happens to the digital games you own on the old platform? This is some slippery slope and people accepting digital only on consoles are beyond crazy.

What's even worse is that modern games always download stuff as soon as you put the disk in the tray. Console games are already half digital and we didn't even notice.
