Seriously, how many more of these are all coming out at the same time? Besides the Homeworld remake, I haven't even heard of a decent space game coming out for what feels like a decade. It felt like, "if you like flying in space, play Project Eve, that's it." Then 2016 comes along and now there's a wall of almost identical games coming out. Are they just poaching off the same engine here?
The only difference I remember between SC, ED and XR is that in one of them, you can see your body in the cockpit. Also No man's Sky really looks like 80% hype. They talk about all these amazing features yet every gameplay video I watched just showed them flying in and out of worlds. I have a bad feeling that game is gonna launch and dump like KotOR, game of empty promises and lost opportunities.
TL;DR what's the difference between these titles? And why so many launch at the same time after a drought of nothing?
All of them are shitty arcade games with no real simulation or finished showcase
They're all cashgrabs for nostalgic Freespace players. Even then, Freespace wasn't the best a space flight sim could be.

Star Citizen hasn't come out and won't be until next year.
NMS might as well never come out.

No Man's Sky: procedurally generated walking simulator. Avoid.
Elite: Dangerous: incomplete Space Trucking simulator, dominated by whiny British dads who hate fun. Maybe wait until the BrabenVision is fully realized but pass for now.

My man, I never touched it when it was new I am aware it was literally broken and unfinished. But its been two years of actual development, I just bought it two weeks ago and at least seven hours in the singleplayer campeign I think its great in terms of being a blue collar space worker and trade service I couldnt ask for more except good voice acting

NMS is spore space mode. You fly to a planet, scan shit, name it cockgobbler, get paid, buy a bigger ship and fly further.
ED is the worst of the bunch. Absolutely nothing to do but grind money for bigger ship to grind money the same way. All the updates have either been half asses or no asses given at all because Braben has his mad idea that everyone only wants to play a game like old ED and new features are bad.
X rebirth is bad, but at least better than ED. You can do more than just buy ships.
And against /v/ misguided view SC is shaping up to be the best.

It makes me feel like an actual space worker, trading, doing jobs. Its not amazing and some design choices are counter intuitive but I like playing it. The entire campeign is like a big tutorial so im still learning. Everyone says X3 is better though I like this one because its a first person perspective. To fix some of the stupid design choices youll need some simple mods too.

NMS and the other two don't really belong in the same category. NMS is supposed to be a super casual jump in and fly around and see fun shit game, more of an exploration game with a space theme than anything. The other two are supposed to be a bit more serious and in-depth.
I get your point though. I think there was just a boost in consumer insterest in space/sci fi a few years ago. You have the Star Trek reboots, the Cosmos reboot, now Star Wars. Whether it's a revitalization or one last burp of life though, I don't know.
