The intro was changed.
In 5 they cut a lot more.
Intro got fucked.
The entire opening segment with Kiryu and Daigo in the cab had music removed completely during the driving and the follow up scene where Daigo exits the cab had music replaced.
Daigo vs Saejima music was completely butchered.
Credits had music replaced as well.

That's why I'm doing different things in the meantime. It's not like I don't want to do SMT1, it's just I can't find anyone interested to help since programming is the only part left to do. We have the script, we have the subbed vids, we have the edited images, no programmer though.
In the meantime I made few undubs on 3DS (also waiting for Moflex encoder to sub SMT4 cutscenes), put the P4U2 english script in the superior dual audio Jap version that also has more content.
Did this and Dead Souls is next, only intro was changed in that one just like Y4.
Teamed up with the guy translating Kenzan and we plan to uncensor Y3 but that will take much more time due to much more things being fucked there.

You need a PS3 running on 3.55 firmware or lower (and then you can just install latest firmware that was modified for piracy on top of that).
All FAT PS3 models are moddable and most of the Slim models.
Super Slims are not moddable.
If the PS3 is on 3.55 or lower you just need a USB stick and install the pirate CFW on it and you're done.
If it's on higher than 3.55 you need to downgrade it which requires buying E3 Flasher device and minimal soldering.
Best to buy one that's already pre-modded or find a specific modshop that offers downgrading consoles.

The only good vocal intros were for JP ver. of Y3 and Y0.
Also when replaying Y5 english release I only noticed the Daigo dialogue music was changed, the rest seemed like the same game for me and it's not like changing two songs is going to change the game in any way.
I liked the song that plays when diago leaves the cab in 5 on the English version.
I wish there was a name attached to it so I could find a way to listen to it.

I think instead of complaining about 3 songs being cut you should complain about the quality of the translation since this is a real problem and a big one.
I got the Yakuza HD collection and Yakuza 4 for PS3.
Played through 1 and loved it and going through 2 now. Should I even bother trying to get my hands on Yakuza 3? I fear that I might burnout on these games if I play 3 and it ends up being as slow as people say it is.

Don't worry, 3 is an amazing game after you first play and complete 1 and 2.
It starts just right with a new city and new tasks and that full 3D city and better graphics will make you want to explore and do sub stories, if you are not into that you can rush the intro which takes only 2 hours and after that you are back in the old Yakuza game formula.
1-3 feel like one complete trilogy really.
3 caps off Kiryu's personal story.
4 introduces brand new character and Kiryu isn't the focus of the story anymore, in fact he's the last one you get to play as and he's only there to get the other 3 protagonists back on the right track.
5 feels like a grand finale to the entire series.

That was more result of people demanding to get the game already and they rushed it. I wonder how they missed this, though it's not like this has any story dialogue.

New writer, new console, have a new character. 3 was the start of the melodrama with the needlessly bigger scale of the plot, then 4 kinda shoehorns Kazuma.
