He dies from the huge amount of poison you have built up, and you can stop ingesting any poison yourself.
Don't drop the apples, fight him at the start of the first level, not at the end. Just do the breath attacks and vine attacks.

Kirby is not affected by poison, in fact, it would give him the copy ability, Poison. Good job you doubled his efficiency by now giving him free powerups while regular whispy doesnt even manage to do that

Okay, make spiky roots take out a significant portion of the ground that he's able to stand on. Spike him when he tries to get close enough to use powers.
Smashing isn't even an OHKO on Kirby any more. Only thing you can do is trap him, make him unable to attack until he loses a battle of attrition.
