From what I can tell, all models of this series have underpowered i5/i7 processors and entry-level GPUs (945M-960M) but HOLY SHIT 16 GB OF DDR4 RAM AND 1 TB OF HARD DRIVE SPACE!

That's what's needed for hovering at 60, downscaled to 1600x900 if you've got the 4k.
Very solid laptop, only issue really is the heat dissipation needs to be lifted from the back to work pretty gud.
Other then that, it's got a sleek design, powerful cpu and good gpu for a mobile and display is nice as well.

It depends on which model you have from the series. If you have the one with the GTX 960M you will be able to play most modern games on default settings in 1080p with at least 30 fps.
So as a gaming machine it will get the job done.
If you have one of the cheaper models with the GTX 954M you may have to settle for 900p or lowered settings in demanding games. You will still be able to play the games.

Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain - 30 fps lock neccesary, effects settings to minimum
Street Fighter V - 60fps with med/low settings
The Witcher III - medium/low settings and around 30 fps

your laptop will get a little heated if you lay it flat on a desk. head over to walmart and pick up a $13 under-vent. my y50 doesn't so much as give off heat or make any noise. the best part is that i can take my gaming/photo/video editing anywhere in my house for 4 hours before i have to begin charging it again. fuck being stuck in an office chair for a solid gaming binge. if you haven't invested in a large capacity SSD, do so asap. an hhd will heat up in a laptop when gaming.

If its a laptop from recently you can play pretty much most games on medium, high if they are pre 2010. Also get a good wired mouse.
