True. The friends have been a non-issue since 2008. If anything, I feel them returning wouldn't be a bad thing, so long as they actually serve a purpose.
That, and I wouldn't mind Blaze returning. She's the best modern era character, with E-102 right behind her.

Super Emeralds are never coming back. They were literally just a bonus so you can't just get Super Sonic in Hydro City then squash the rest of the game with Super Sonic (though you absolutely can and get the somewhat good ending)
Enabling the second set of seven emeralds for the & Knuckles half of the game was a gesture to play those Special Stages instead of letting them go to waste with the reward of an upgraded Super Sonic and the perfect ending.
Otherwise, them and Hyper Sonic aren't coming back ever. Hell, the Emeralds as they are have looked like the Super ones ever since, yet they've always resulted in Super Sonic. Let it die already.
