Only once I've had my DS3 show a low battery warning and it was after playing for like 30 hours in some online game without any charging during and only short pauses. Did have stuff like rumble disabled so it likely helped.
DS4 I used wireless at first but I pretty much gave up, battery low all the time, disabled all the features I could too.
I'll probably buy some better cable sometime, the one that comes with the console is too stiff.

What kind of shitty bargain-bin chinese brand do you buy your microUSB cables from?
I've had about 10 microUSB cables in the past 5 years, with at least a couple of them in very active use, without a single one ever breaking.
I've had a couple miniUSB cables that broke, mostly from the miniUSB connector's metal sleeve bending into itself, sometimes by itself while stored without even any external force applied.
USB-A connectors sometimes have a similar problem of bending metal, but for them it usually only happens when mishandled or inserted into bad ports.
I've only been using USB-C cables for 5 months now, but they definitely feel nicer and more solid than any of the others.

Yeah, but you only need it to set the controller up. I used it to set the pair my controller and set the configurations for gtav and a few arkham games, and the configs still function outside of bpm.
I played around with the mode at first, but didn't like it because, for me at least, when you press home to leave and come back into the game, my controller wouldn't reconnect for whatever reason 90% of the time.

DS3 can charge from any 5V/500mA USB port. PS3's ports don't provide power when off, but some other consoles (like Wii) do. You can also use a laptop, desktop, TV, etc.

I've successfully charged my DS3 with the chargers that were included with my Nexus S (Samsung), Nexus 7 (ASUS), Nexus 4 (LG), Vita (Sony), Moto G, Moto E, and even an ancient Motorola charger that was bundled with a flip phone more than 10 years ago.

I take that back, apparently it was only DS4 that I tested all of those with.
Indeed, it looks like none of my phone, tablet, Vita, or Chromecast chargers work with the DS3.
