Thoughts/opinions?
I'm enjoying it so far
>>
>>329695891
It's fantastic. It only gets better and better, so have fun.
>>
>>329695891
i preferred 3DLand

World felt to "been there, done that" after Land
>>
>>329696007
Where would you rank it among the 3d marios?
>>
>>329695891
A great game on its own, but it's definitely no substitute for SM64 or Galaxy.
>>
>>329696150
I got it after playing through 3D land, i like it a lot but i miss the leaf/tanooki suit. Or maybe i just havent played enough?
>>
>>329696240
I loved sm64 but i just couldnt get in to galaxy, i guess it was the wagglan'
>>
>>329695891
Very good, it has a really amazing focus on level design and the soundtrack is amazing.
The game is kind of a cakewalk at the beginning but it gets better steadily.
Multiplayer is great too, try to play with a bro.
>>
>>329695891
I kind of find it's at its most fun if you have friends or family to play it with.

Play it alone, and while it's still a blast, its flaws become more apparent.
>>
>>329695891
It's good fun, especially if you have someone to play it with. I still think Sunshine, Galaxy, and 64 are better 3D Mario games, but 3D World isn't bad in any way. One thing it did right is letting you play as other characters like Toad and Peach again.
>>
>>329696176
3D World > 3D Land. It's its own thing. Not like the 3D ones and not like the 2D ones either. I call them Iso Marios.
>>
its great

good visuals, great soundtrack, neat level design and secrets hidden around everywhere, riding in the ice skate is fun, but the bosses got really repetitive

fire peach is a semon demon
>>
>>329696735
>fire peach is a semon demon
You mean tanooki Luigi
>>
It's an incredibly fun game that is unfortunately not very memorable.
>>
>>329695891
>Finish crown world
>Get everything in the game
>Have to still finish the game with every character
>Don't even get a message saying thank you after completing crown

F-fuck you to nintendo ; - ;
>>
>>329696882
>cat suits
>multi cherries
>Plessie
>this song and levels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmDtvKD236U
>not very memorable.
You wat?
>>
Worst home console 3D Mario but still has some cool new ideas and fun to play. The main thing that sucks to me about it is the difficulty "curve". Extremely easy for the first 8 worlds, still pretty easy for the next 3 worlds, and then super hard for the last world which is just 1 level and nothing in the game gradually prepared you for it by ramping up your skill. Unlike the ultimate challenge levels in the SMG games for example it felt really unfun and unfair.
>>
>>329697673

>galaxies are piss easy until end game
>nobody ever complains about it but 3D world is somehow the first to start this trend
>>
>>329696309

Tanooki is in it.
>>
>>329697310
Yo man, I'm not knocking the game. I love it.

But compared to other 3D Mario games it just doesn't have that lasting effect. I honestly had forgotten about Plessie until you mentioned it just now.

Bleep Block Highway music has nothing to do with the game, and you know it.

my favorite part of the level is when i get to show off my terrible stick figure drawings mixed in with stamps
>>

Galaxies had a much more noticeable difficulty curve compared to 3D World.

tanooki suit is in....world 4 or 5.

game is amazing, fantastic stage design, each character feels different enough to be refreshing.

only shitty part is beating every stage 5 times if you don't have a co-op partner(s)
>>
>>329697909

really? when?

because I blew past everything
>>
>>329697310
>>329697962
if you really are referring to beep blocks and not the porn then you should know that they spawned from the galaxy games not 3D world
>>
I really wish it had DLC similar to the Luigi NSMBU pack that was all really difficult levels because 95% of the levels in this game are piss easy

Fun game, looks great, interesting concepts but it's way too easy

>the music has nothing to do with the game
>THAT MUSIC IN PARTICULAR
you fucking what? that music helps you get the rhythm for when the blocks shift.
>>
Good game, but they should have put more work into the setting.

>64: Mysterious castle filled with paintings, secrets around every corner
>Sunshine: A tropical paradise, beaches, water everywhere, piantas
>Galaxy: Space, planets, black holes, stars, lumas, lots of different creatures/races, crazy shit everywhere
>3D World: NSMB, except CATS, also Bowser has a car for some reason?

It doesn't really feel like a proper 3D Mario, it lacks that atmosphere. Plus the timer discourages any kind of exploration (along with the level design).
>>
>>329698037
Sure, but 3D World perfected it thanks to that song. It's just fantastic.
>>
It has a ton of really great levels, which is all you really need in a Mario game. Your movement options are pretty limited compared to other 3D Mario games, but they're perfectly fine when taken on their own.
>>
>>329698034
Congratulations. That means the difficulty curve was well-adjusted to improve gradually along with your skill. If you handed a new player who hadn't played a single level of SMG or SMG2 Grandmaster Galaxy they wouldn't blow past it. And you seem to think that I disagree about the Galaxy games being mostly easy - I do not. 3D World is just even more extreme about it and takes it past the point of being egregious.
>>
>>329698143
He stole Wario's new car. That's why he hasn't had a new game in such a long time ;_;
>>
>>329698273
Not really, but I'm glad the mechanic is sticking around because I like it. It was really stupid that it wasn't timed to the music in the final level though. It is in every other instance of it.
>>
I never liked they always force the latest power-up on you. it was Acorn shrooms with NSMBU, and it was the Tanooki leaf with 3D Land, now it's the Cat Bell here. That said, the game isn't bad, but I really wasn't prepared for Mario to feel so slow, after coming back to the game since a long time.
>>
I really dislike the fact that the game is so self aware. The levels all look like they could be nothing but video game levels, blocks floating in nothingness. The controls, the level design, it's all good. But there's absolutely no atmosphere, no feeling that the worlds that I'm travelling through could be real. Which is why I can't get into most recent marios.
>>
>>329695891
Best 3D Mario.

I think it would greatly benefit from a time trial/challenge mode like in NSMBU though.
>>
Personally, I dislike the direction of the recent 3D mario games.
I want them to be sadnboxy, not themeparky.
While themepark mario titles are good on a first playthrough, they become extremely boring to replay as a trade-off.
No matter how amazing galaxy and 3DW are (and they are), I just can't get myself to replay them due to the extreme linearity.

I have replayed sunshine and 64 probably a collective of 30 times by now.

So when I ask myself, what's better, 500 hours of good fun or 20 hours of great fun? I'll pick the former. It's also more enjoyable to have more momentum-based control, building up speed is fun.
>>
>>329698501
What's wrong with having a new powerup in a new Mario game? If anything I think they underuse them. There should have been levels that were impossible without cat powers, but all they ever offer you are some secrets/collectibles or a shortcut for the most part.
>>
>>329698501
In case you hadn't noticed it, the power ups are what make Mario great.
>>
Only mario iv actually liked
>>
>>329698675
>If anything I think they underuse them.
And this is how powercreep ruins series
>>
Babbys first 3d platformer
>>
>>329698797
What? This isn't a competitive multiplayer game, it's a platformer. Why come up with a powerup with unique platforming mechanics, and then not create levels that capitalize on those mechanics? Just seems wasteful to me.
>>
>>329696479
Yeah, I was in that situation when I was in world 5

>my brother wasn't interested when I got the game
>suddenly, I'm in that part where the floor changes when you jump
>he wants to help me
>in the end, we finished the game together
>>
>>329698719
>>329698675
I'm not saying that power-ups aren't great, but Mario has a lot of power-ups to use, and I personally don't like having one power-up that they give you almost all the time.

>>
>>329699235
They use the fire flowers a ton in this game too. And the new Double Cherries. And the Tanooki suit. Speaking of that, I hate how they turned the regular leaf into a suit. Give me back just the ears and the tail.
>>
>>329699486
yeah I don't like the consolidation of the raccoon suit and tanuki suit either. i guess they were worried about visual clarity but come on we don't need a giant fursuit to know he has a tail
>>
>>329698653
I have pretty much the opposite opinion. I've never really liked the more open level design that 64 or sunshine had, it doesn't really feel like a mario game. I liked 3D world a lot because it's the closest they've gotten to recreating the style of the 2D games in a 3D environment
>>
>>329699862
>>329698653
I feel like there is a way to find a middle ground. They could have a game that has big open 64/Sunshine style levels with goals similar to those games, that also has lots of linear platforming challenges too. I guess they sort of tried that in Sunshine but there were not very many of the linear stages. I'm thinking more like 10 open stages each with a bunch of stars to get + 50 linear stages with one or two stars each. I know as a fan of both types I would love this, but what do you guys think as fans of mainly only one type?
>>
>>329695891
I really hate it
I don't see what everyone else sees in the game but I've given several chances, even with friends, and I always got board and was disappointed in it
>>
>>329695891
brain dead easy you will find yourself auto piloting through the whole thing
still much better than 3D land
I know this game is supposed to be for 5 to 10 years old kids to enjoy but Nintendo need to find a balance for the new audience and the old one
having to go through the whole game for 1 or 2 challenging levels is getting stale
>>
>>329700112
I feel like that's what SMG1 was going for, with the core level being reused 2-3 times (more with comets) for each star, but with more variety for each star. For the fans of the open level design that probably wasn't enough for them, but I thought it was well done.

I don't know if your idea of mixing larger open stages and smaller stages would work. If they tried to give both audiences what they want, the shifts in level design would be pretty jarring for people who aren't concerned with that sort of thing. The 3D mario games are generally a good mix of consistency with variety, but I could see that being too much variety.
>>
>>329699323
What?
I like speed and low jumps.
>>
>>329700917
Your concern is valid, but I think they could unify the two types of stages by having the main new mechanic / powerup be equally useful for both types of stages.
