It just isn't that hard. A lot of spellcards rely on gimmicks that once known make them nearly trivial. Most attacks in Mushihime or DoDonPachi are several times harder than most of the shit you'd find in 2hu. It's pretty fun though, if you can stomach the artstyle.

It's simply a matter of perspective. ZUN makes his games on the "Dodge pretty yet challenging patterns" while you have certain "Hardcore" shmups such as Mushihimesama or DonDonPachi who have TLBs that make you resource manage, which isn't fun at all. Also, Touhou's 12 and 15 show how hard some games can be in the series.
