xcx is probably best described as a single player MMO, lots of bite sized quests and tasks to waste your time on as you grind to level cap, endgame gear, etc. the story is kind of an afterthought but I personally was fine with that because of how much I enjoyed the gameplay

I think the reason people don't like 4 is because it's much easier than 3 and you get 3 playable characters with only 3 slots to use them at any time.
I honestly think 4 is much better but that's probably because I bought it on steam to play the bonus area which was full of boss rush stuff. They're both worth playing in my opinion. I mean they're both free as well so might as well if you have the time, plus the creator is a cool dude
