Harder difficulty option and less filler shit with too much text and tutorials ( like pokemon contests and shit).
Also, multiple Battle Frontiers with special options like Lvl cap, 2nd stage pokemon, that would be fun but pkmn company seems to be enjoying making pokemon games casual as fuck. (X and Y were easy as fuck, I imagine a 8 yo playing that game and getting through the Elite 4 very easily)

Basically, after each route you rotate to the least leveled pokemon, put them in your party and try and get through to the next section.
It depends on the game, some games you might want to give yourself some pokemon so you can use a full team from the start. It's really good to do in X/Y and ORAS but you mi8ght want to get 18 pokemon due to the exp gain.
