Are there any games that are like RTS games but are actually good?
I heard Wargame was good.
>>329317874
Wargame is only good for multiplayer, the AI is probably the worst I've ever seen, and I don't mean worst as in stupid, I mean worst as in it cheats like a motherfucker
bfme2
>>329317987
I don't give a shit about AI.
>>329318089
So you want good multiplayer RTS games then
>>329318236
All RTS games are multiplayer games. Never seen a good singleplayer RTS game.
>>329318320
All of them have multiplayer, and most have single player
World in Conflict is an example of a good single player RTS
>>329318320
You most never played many RTS then.
>>329318424
Sure all of them might have single-player, but that single-player is often as worthless as it gets.
>>329318506
What RTS have you played that sp suck? just asking
>>329317874
Start with wargame EE and beat the campaign then move on to ALB or RD.
you will be shit on by everyone if you are some steam sale noob using default decks in RD.
>>329318506
Generally the older games have better single player, since multiplayer wasnt as big back then, so its only gotten "worthless" recently
play the classics if you haven't already
>>329318550
Supcom, Starcraft, AoEII, Dawn of War...
All those game it's very clear that the meat of the game is in the multiplayer and not the thrown together singleplayer.
Then again I'm looking for something that's an improvement to the RTS formula so I don't want to play any of those games.
>>329318717
All those games had great sp, but AOE2.
>>329318717
Play Company of heros 2 has plenty of people playing online.
>>329318884
Dawn of War's campaign was a glorified AI skirmish map.
Starcraft was just a bunch of tutorials for the MP.
SupCom was a bunch of shit objectives that you had no way to predict until actually having played the mission once.
>>329318606
That is true because most RTS games are made by small developers. They usely focus on MP because it cost less and easy to make.
>>329318717
>starcraft
>>329319039
Thats like saying why play any game with mp because it just to get your ready for it. lol
>>329319205
If the MP outclasses the SP in every way, then there is no reason to play the SP.
Wargame plays almost completely unlike your run of the mill RTS. Also the SP is utter shit in every installment.
>>329318594
>beat the campaign
Yeah how about no. EE's campaign doesn't play like MP games at all.
>>329319449
thats not the point you steam sale noob. its to get you used to the units and know NOT to use any of them in RD. every time I see a shitter with a fucking pre 1990 deck they throw the fucking game. Learn deck building in ALB or RD campaign. don't jump into MP like a massive shitter
>>329319583
>recommending people to waste money on a shit game with a shit SP campaign and a dead community
>instead of getting RD and just learning the fucking game
Some RTS games were actually built around SP campaign.
C&C
Faces of War, Men of War (except asssquad which is not even same devs)
Original War
>>329319697
fuck off steam sale noob. go ruin other people's games.
>>329319805
Case in point.
rise of nations
>>329317987
In the Campaign you can fuck with the AI because they have pre-programmed routes. Just send out fast moving tanks or IFV's and snipe their CV's to prevent the AI from spawning in and using their pre-programmed route.
>>329318320
World in Conflict.
>>329319937
>snipe their CV'
That only works in Bruden Gegen Bruder, the AI will more often than not spawn shit from points that aren't the insertion points, sometimes out of thin air. They also don't have fog of war which means that they know exactly where each and every of your units are.
>>329320003
Yes great game but it's obvious that guy never played many RTS.
>>329319739
You forgot Homeworld 1
>>329319449
It's not supposed too, there's even a campaign about surviving Nato/USSR units working together in a post-nuclear war enviroment fighting off hostile survivors. You got very limited supplies and units.
>>329318717
Starcraft has some of the most well designed, high production value campaigns around. It has a huge emphasis on schlocky story.
Multiplayer may be the legs, but don't understand how much appeal singleplayer has in the genre.
>wargame
Aw yiss
>>329321193
>>329321193
Did you think this was impressive? You're playing against a fucking retard.
>>329321302
>>329321327
>he thinks it's my webm
BMPTs are just satisfying to watch, faggot
I'd give my left nut for world in conflict 2. You think they'd consider a 2 if The Division becomes a hit?
>>329321302
>F-111C
>not F-15D
No wonder it only panicked those t34s :^)
>>329321098
This looks really satisfying. Is Wargame easy to keep track of? I'm really done trying to keep track of my base, my units, and my allies.
>>329321407
>>329320003
my african american comrade
>>329321503
>Is Wargame easy to keep track of
If you're asking that question you're better off playing something else.
>>329317874
Natural Selection 2
/v/ would probably be bad at it though
>>329321503
You have to micromanage a fair amount of the units but a lot of it is understanding strategy and countering your opponents. You'd definitely need to read the 200 page guide.
>>329321507
>>329321445
It's not happening, they shut down the online of the last one and massive is kill
>>329321503
There's no base building, it's more tactical than strategy, but it DOES have a huuuge learning curve
>>329321561
Nigger all I need to know is if I can keep my focus mostly on the battle.
I can play RTS games that don't have a shit-ton to keep track of just fine, like all of the Dawn of War games.
>>329320074
can confirm 2nd Korean War scenario is fucking hard.
>Literally impossible to hold these fuckers back.
>after three turns there are 35 units attacking me.
>>329321637
Hence what In said, go looking for something else.
>>329318717
>Dawn of War
>Starcraft
>thrown together singleplayer
>>329321749
Well if the whole genre is that shit...
I can give you a little piece of advice if you by chance decide to buy any of Eugene's Wargames (and god help you because you definitely have brain problems): DO NOT fucking play team matches. Host your own room with "noobs only" in the title and kick out players that aren't noobs. Unless you enjoy getting shitstomped or having half your team be retarded and the other half ragequit.
>>329322180
Also most units are noob traps. Ask for advice in /wgg/, leddit or whatever the fuck before you go into battle with retarded decks.
>>329322537
Tunguska-M is love, Tunguska-M is life
>>329322537
how does one properly conceal recon? I feel like they always end up hung out to dry. Do you just have to micromanage them?
>>329322808
Basically.
>>329322632
You're a fucking faggot.
>>329318717
>dawn of war
>bad singleplayer
are you a ruseman?
>>329322865
Damn it. It seems like I have trouble focusing on more than one area at once. I guess I just need to get gud but I'm not really sure how to get better at that sort of thing.
>>329322180
I have never had a brain problem.
But none of what you described sounds like anything I haven't dealt with before.
Except joining noob games and still getting bitched at.
Does anyone know more RTS games with singleplayer campaigns like DoW Dark Crusade or Warlords Battlecry?
>>329323387
the entire total war series
risk
your mum
>play World in Conflict
>barely any strategy required
>play Dawn of War 2
>literally a MOBA
>>329322924
Mad airbabby detected
>>329319039
What
DoW had a full campaign with a story, the fuck are you talking about?
>>329323471
War games RD is shit anyways.
>>329323570
I enjoy it
>>329318320
Then you're a pleb.
>>329323068
That's my problem with multiplayer RTS. My mindset isn't in the maximize economy spam units and rush rush rush, it's more watching it for the cinematics
That's why I like Wargames replay system that lets me go back without a HUD and view replays in slow mo
>>329323878
I wouldn't call it "spam." wargame is about balancing high-numbers efficient units with low-numbers strong units.
a good example is a Bloc motorized deck. you're "spamming" cheap Mot. Schutzen, but you also have your less available unicorns like the Ondava and Strop 2.
>>329323878
>mig-31 in a dogfight
Whoever was playing that is an idi-
>computer
Makes perfect sense
I honestly want to go back to ALB. the maps were prettier, and way more fun to play on. Red Dragon has a lot of really fun and exciting units, but the maps kind of kill it for me. all the maps I've enjoyed playing on have been ports of EE maps.
>>329324051
Haven't people forsaken the water maps altogether?
I wonder if there are any pretty land RD maps.
>>329324096
Why is naval combat so shit in RD
Why do none of the ships have any semblance of fire control
>>329324096
there are some pretty RD maps. Chosin Resistor and Korea Rocks come to mind. but I much preferred the color pallet and overall aesthetics of Scandinavia to Asia.
I'm not talking about naval maps either. even the land maps just feel weirdly balanced and illogical in RD.
I hope the next Wargame game gets us out of fucking asia and either removes or fixes naval combat
Also, strategic bombers when, I want to spend 400 points on a B1 and free the shit out of some commies
>>329317874
>tfw you never get the chance to crush reddit again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rtjfXs5g_A
>>329324320
>V-Bombers in Wargame
>>329324320
Never, you wouldn't deploy a strategic bomber against tactical targets, especially those with an active IADS.
>>329318717
supcom has great singleplayer though; it's just that like you say the meat of the game is multi
The campaign is great; the AI is great until you learn how to play properly (and it teaches you to play wrong)
>>329317874
battlezone
>>329324610
Maybe YOU wouldn't, gayboy
>>329319079
>easy to make
You are right, they only demand absolute balance, which the single player can phone in.
>>329319739
>Some RTS games were actually built around SP campaign.
most of them were.
Even starcraft.
Wargame RD is good but it's unlike most other RTS games and has a steeper learning curve than most. You really need to be able to read into stats and deck builds well which takes time but you can import decks that other people make as well.
It's fairly dead online unfortunately and Eugen has moved on to their next game, Act of Aggression, which more like C&C than Wargame.
>>329326952
You also need to know actual military tactics. And NATO counters unless you're masochistic.
>Eugen has moved on to their next game, Act of Aggression
Act of Aggression bombed pretty fucking hard and they're practically guaranteed to be working on Wargame 4.
