Pretty great. I love open worlds and it would bring much needed breath of fresh air to the series. Kirby is easy as fuck, so nothing would be lost in transition.

Mario's abilities also consist of jumping and throwing something occasionally, which work well in all dimensions.
Kirby has a lot of copy abilities with moves that make use of which way you press the D-pad, and having a 3D environment would mean that gets lost.

Not lost, simply expanded. In fact that is one of the most exciting aspects of a full 3D kirby game. The abilities copied would open up a full range of new moves and attacks. Not just the standard 3-4. Plus you can mix in ability combo mechanics and now you got potentially dozens of possible powers and move sets that translate into a 3D world with 3D combat. Half the fun would be going through the levels and finding the best copies to fight particular enemies. It could be deep as fuck senpai.

Not in all games. It could be a return to form where there are more abilities with less variety for individual abilities, like Dreamland 2, 3, Adventure, and 64. And directional inputs could be replaced with the right stick or other buttons being held.
These are solutions that came from one man thinking for 1 minute. I'm sure Nintendo would come to a good decision.
