XV is shaping up to be one of the best FF games yet and it has nothing to do with FF13 in terms of the game or the dev team, in fact it's design principal from the beginning was that it was being made to be the literal opposite of FF13, hence why it was called Versus 13, literally against 13.

1 2 3 4 are pretty difficult for new comers so is 5, so go with 6 7 8 or 9 to get the feel of the original final fantasy play style,
6 and 9 for that original setting style of final fantasy, that is if you want an easier game.
You want more challenge go with 4 or 5, if you want a real challenge go with 1 2 or 3.
you want to try tactics for the sake of exploring classes
10 12 and 13 if you want the modern styles of final fantasy.
