Has anyone here played it? What's it like?
Playing Final Fantasy IV at the moment. PC version, which I think is just the 3DS version. I replayed FFVII this year. Didn't do any special run. Basically wanted to remind myself of all the things in the game due to Cloud being in all of these games all of a sudden.
I'm excited for FF explorers but I heard people calling it a poor MonHun clone. I hope that isn't the case. I like MH and I wouldn't mind a FF-themed clone, but I hope the game is good, that's all that really matters. I don't know how I feel about being able to turn into various FF characters. I'd really wish SE would get out of this phase of reusing the same FF characters. Before FF10, the cool thing about FF characters is that they would almost never appear in another game. Cloud and Aerith were really the only ones I can think of that really appeared in another game (Tactics), besides Gilgamesh, who is kinda the exception to the rule. Dissidia was a neat idea, and I'm excited for Dissidia PS4, but World of FF, Dissidia, and Explorers are not really adding anything new to the series. Take Crystal Chronicles for example, a FF spinoff without reusing any characters. That's really how it should be done.
I'll probably main Laguna when he's released for Dissidia. Until then, I might begin with Tidus or Ramza if he's released day one.

FF4 PC is on steam for half off at the moment. You get achievements, which I guess is something to some people. I don't know if the PSP version has the hard difficulty option, but the PC version does. I know because I'm playing the hard difficulty literally right now in my other screen.
If you've never played FF4 and you want a reason to play it, I'll simply say this: its the "most Final Fantasy" Final Fantasy.

Yes he is. SE has already announced every character in previous Dissidia games will return, it will just take a while. Dissidia arcade version will launch with only the 14 main FF heroes. Then Ramza will come next and Noctis will come some time after FF15 is released.

FFIII is a really fun game, but at one point you'll unlock the Scribe for Libra and I'd recommend you try to minimize the amount of combat you do as the class due to the massive HP disparity that character will get from leveling as a Scribe.

Come to think of it: FF is actually a pretty hard series to "get into" in this day and age. No one in their right mind would recommend FF13 as the first FF to play. FF10HD makes the most sense to me, but a lot of people on /v/ hate it.

If we're talking ANY final fantasy, you have to go with Absolute Virtue. That thing was ungodly powerful. I don't think any group ever managed to take it down. It could full-heal itself whenever it wanted if I'm remembering it correctly, and took hours to whittle down.

The issue with PS3 HD is the lack of OG OST, and the PS4/Vita issue was the fixed RNG, which was patched, and you can chose the OST nowchose OG you fuck.
I'd actually recommend emulating the PAL/International versions of FFX, but to each their own and there are benefits to each version.

It depends on the kind of battle style you'll be comfortable with, whatever recommendation you get I'd say check the combat of the game so you can see if you'd be happy with playing a pretty long game turn-based, ATB or whatever.
But I'd say FFIII, FFVII or FFX are the best places to start if you're BRAND new.
