THE SCUTTLEBUG RISES
>>
>>324345710
Why do you think he doesn't?
He very clearly has a good grasp of programming and even understands much of the logic behind programming, he could easily be a software engineer.
>>
>>324346294
>Why do you think he doesn't?
Well because it seems he has a lot of free time on his hands. Not something someone would have if they were in college or employed. I still admire how he explains things though and his voice isn't boring. He has talent.
>>
>>324346294
maybe he just like it when it involves something he is passionate about. take away the mario 64 part and he might not enjoy it as much. who knows really.

>>
>>324346556
>Well because it seems he has a lot of free time on his hands
Why?
This video is a culmination of almost 20 years of glitch experimentation in a community, I'd wager most/all of the glitches weren't found by him aside from figuring out the slopes in that tunnel room, the acceleration time is irrelevant because Tool Assisted means he can just speed through it, and after routing it doesn't require a great deal of trial and error like an RTA challenge because he can manually control what inputs go on what frame with 100% accuracy.

>>324346648
Yeah, it's simply assuming a lot about him, I know plenty of people who are really skilled at certain things but lose drive when they try to apply it outside of a passion project, but I also know plenty of people who love their careers so much that they apply their career skills in their hobby.
>>
>>324344704
Judging from the speed numbers, I think it's safe to assume that each single speed unit is about half a kilometer per hour. Mario's running speed in game is about 31, and converted straight across would make him nearly as fast as an olympic sprinter, so I think it's safe to reduce that number by about half so his running speed is roughly 15kmph. He's more jogging than running anyway.

When he starts actually traversing universes he's going about 239,350 kilometers per hour, or roughly 195.39 times the speed of sound. Now, this is nowhere close to light speed, which is 874,030 times the speed of sound, but it shows that the barrier between universes is more fragile than one would think, and might be able to be broken by technology of the near future, if not current technology.
>>
>>324347316
>implying a 20 year old game's physics and an integer overflow glitch are in any way applicable to the real world
>>
>>324347316
Wouldn't this also mean that light carries over through parallel universes and that it is the one constant throughout all universes entirely, and thus discovering Faster Than Light travel would effectively mean the ability to travel to parallel universes as well as travel back and forward in time due to the infinite multiverse theory?
>>

>>324351975
that's exactly why
>>
>>324351975
It adds a press in an individual run, but it does not add a press in a full run of the game, so it's called a .5 button press.
>>
>>324351975
he doesn't ever press the button once he's initiated the star, just holding it and then releasing it at whatever necessary point.
>>
>>324351975
Because in the context of the entire run it's already counted. If you have to jump to get into the level then you can just keep holding it. He calls it a half press because then you know that it requires a press but if you are doing a full game run then you can use an earlier press
>>
>>324344704

>King Crimson plays Mario 64
>>
>>324351975
When doing IL you only count actions made during the level.
Each IL is eventually combined together, along with movement to get from each level to the next, along with setup, to make a full run.
The button press does count in the full run, but when reading it as an IL, you don't include it.
It's like including the time required to get a required powerup for a specific level in a TAS.

The reasoning is that, if it can be performed reliably on all stages, it could revolutionize all tool assisted runs of SM64.

It could potentially make it possible to get 0 A presses in the entire game, as well as completely cut down on the time required to do both a 0 star and a 120 star TAS.

This find is potentially on par with the backwards longjump skips.

This man's dedication and understanding of concepts the programmers likely didn't even fully realize is fucking sublime. The best part is the idea it takes probably years of figuring out and lining up multiple precise mechanics in order to bypass the simplest one in the game is so fucking ridiculous you can tell he didn't' give a rats ass about recognition.

He literally did it because he could. Because it was a means to achieve a goal. Because it's fun.

/v/ mirrors the majority of society in having a jaded mentality when it comes to displaying passion over something-- especially vidya-- probably because so few people are open about such things out of fear of being labeled or ostracized.

"Autism" is the same as "tryhard". So long as the person is enjoying themselves without actively bothering others in their pursuits-- the problem lies with the person unhappily obsessing over the happily obsessed.

>The activation process requires almonds to be soaked in water for a period of 12 hours. Advocates believe this deactivates the enzyme inhibitors and brings the nut to life. Once the almonds have been soaked, they are then dehydrated at low temperatures (40 degrees) over a 24-hour period. Dehydrated almonds have a similar flavour and texture to roasted.

Of course. More popular games usually have more of them exposed. For example, something like Halo 2 had that popular weapon switching to sword lunge trick that allowed you to both sword lunge insane distance, and get out of bounds with it. Especially with the help of other players doing the same. Sure, that one was well known, but there's plenty of examples in every game where you just break what should be possible.
>>
>>324364823
The button press is the full cycle of pressing the button, holding it, and letting go so it can be pressed one full time. The half button press isn't actually pressing the button half a time, it's a notation saying if you start the level with the button pressed you can achieve things you couldn't if you didn't start the level with the button pressed. In a full run, that "held" state would piggy back off of an earlier button press and not need another one, whereas if you play the level in isolation it would need a unique press. So the comnunity just say it's half a press when looking at a level in isolation, because theoretically these would be combined into a full run.
>>
>>324364856
and all you have to do is get some dust in your cartridge like the guy who originally found it and wait for the glitch to happen
>>
>>324364779
A lot of games have bad geometry that let you build up speed or eject you at high speeds, but I'm not if modern games use a single 15 bit integer that rolls over infinitely to check for floor collision
