N64 and ps2 both had a weak library but both the n64 and the dreamcast suffered from a shitty controller.
Only thing that pulled ps2 ahead was backwards compatibility to make up for its shit library.
Seems like N64 and PS2 in their own libraries though were lacking while dreamcast had a better selection. It was more hit than miss on a lot of popular dreamcast titles while titles on N64 and PS2 didn't hold up as well.
Don't get me wrong though i loved me a bunch of PS2 and N64 games. Neither of them really outdid UTGOTY online or some DOA2 with family and friends.
Also i had a PC too at the time and got way more play time for half life and mods than most anything else.

Anyway sturgeon's law applies to everything, PS2 also has hundreds of games but only 20 or 30 are actually must play and still it's a subjective matter.
For example, I never like dthe GTA games, while for some people they are a must and GTA III was one of the best selling titles on PS2.

PS2, but at the same time a lot of the strength came from multiplatforms. I never even had a ps2, only played on emulators but it would be foolish to not understand the impact it had throughout the world.
I hate to sound like a nostalgiafag but it really was a great era in gaming. Technology was at a point where it was possible to create fairly big worlds and fairly detailed character models while at the same time companies were still searching for winning formulas and taking more risks in the process. AAA gaming was weird, awkward, imbalanced, and fun.
Come to think of it, the wii u library feels similar to that generation in a lot of ways which is why i enjoy it so much. In particular the platinum games and splatoon feel like modernized and vastly improved ps2 games.

All of our PS2 lists would have a wider variety of titles than our N64 lists.
I would rather choose to play our PS2 lists than our N64 lists.
My PS2 library is mostly arcade games (IIDX and shooters), and I don't find much to care about on the N64 beyond Waverace and Blast Corps.
I don't think it's unfair to say that you need to have a pretty narrow range of taste to say the N64 beats the PS2.

These 2 Goemon games are fairly different from each other, one is a 3D platformer/adventure game and the other is a side-scroller.
Also what's wrong with Wonder Project J2? it's a unique game and one of the most gorgeous 2D games of 5th gen. It even got an english translation patch now.

The Nintendo 64 had some great games but I think that PS2 has more games that have held up over time and are still worthwhile today

To be honest I have a hard time choosing. Conventionally, PS2 should win because it has way more good games, which every PS2 fan loves to bring up, but I don't care for most of them at all. The N64 has very few good games but the ones I love I can replay over and over. At least with the N64 you have a few really good original games but with the PS2 it's like every mediocre game got at least 2 sequels so you have to pick through a mountain of ho-hum to find one good game.
PS2. Better games across all genres, plus they can actually hold up to this day unlike most N64 titles.
