Man, he sure talks for a while. About how his interpretation of a button input is correct and how other interpretations are not.
I don't really have a problem with him showing off how he can clear things while not "pressing" A the whole level, but the nomenclature of press/half-press and the explanation is dumb. It's a 1 or a 0. His rise time fall time graph clearly shows that. He's just in the 1 state before starting the level and uses clever (I guess) tricks to finish anyway.

No it does make sense, because although he holds down the button during the level he never actually JUMPS, which requires the act of pressing the button down. He never presses the button, but saying he did it with 0 presses of the button would kind of be cheating. Hence 0.5.

Think of there as being 3 different tiers:
1 A run: He presses A one time after entering the level, thus letting him use 1 jump while in the level
0.5 A run: He presses A before entering the level, and simply has it held down while doing the whole thing. He doesn't get to jump but he gets the "bonuses" of holding down A.
0 A run: He never presses A or has it held at all
It's more just that it's the easiest term to use, unless you were to call it a "held A run" or something. 0.5 A press also makes more sense when you're talking about a full run of the game, and how many A presses you had within a specific level if you pressed it beforehand.
