Where do I go after the gargoyles and ringing the bell at the top of the tower? I went to lower undead burg but the Capra Demon wrecks my shit. I tried going through the gardens but those giant green guys also wreck my shit. Should I be going somewhere else?

Go to the sewers which requires you to fight the Capra Demon. To defeat the Capra demon, kill the wolves then climb the stairs and walk along the wall.

Get Drake Sword, kill the dogs right at the star with a 1-handed strong attack, and enjoy the easiest 1-on-1 boss fight in a souls game.
If the sewers wreck your shit though, like they did with me on my first go, go grab an uncurse from the dude in the bell tower, and then go to the drake valley through the darkroot basin (take a right at the bottom of the ramp, turning you away from the crystal golems and the tower with havel the rock). The path is guarded by a black knight, but just lead him back to the ramp and cheese him from someplace he can't reach you.

Capra punishes shield users more than dodgers IMO.
You can survive gargs+taurus by hiding behind a shield, but Capra can quite easily guardbreak you if you haven't got either a really sturdy shield or a lot of endurance.
Just slay the dogs, you'll probably make quick work of the goatfuck if you can dodge

The way Dark Souls works is that you, the player, picks the difficulty level not from a menu but by certain game mechanics. The Drake Sword is you unlocking easy mode for the first chunk of the game. It's really a noob trap though, it becomes shit really fast.

You can do this but in Dark Souls you can use any weapon from the start if you just upgrade it and weapon damage scale with your stats.

Drake sword is easy mode until you reach Anor Londo, then you are fucked because you don't know how to kill shit when enemies don't die in 1 hit anymore, also it's heavy so it fucks rolling speed for more characters at that point of the game.
If you want to use Drake sword thats your problem, it's not an advice you should give to beginners.

Just raise your shield when your enter, you should be able to thank 1 or 2 hits and after that just go up the stairs, focus on killing the dogs first and then try plunging attacking capra until he's dead.

The general was to get to Blighttown is through the Lower Burg and the Depths. Somehow you lucked out and got there through Darkroot Basin and the Valley of Drakes.

no, you have to go to Capra Demon, unless you have the master key, then you can bypass him going through new londo ruis. there is a building there next to the elevator that takes you to valley of the drakes, and then a bridge that takes you to blighttown.
But the normal way is beating capra, and getting his key to go to the depths.
My advice is go to where andre of astora is, and do the forest area, kill the moolight butterfly to get some levels and then go back to capra.
My strategy for Capra is simple.
enter, kill a dog, get hurt, then run to the stairs, kill the other dog (he will follow you there), then jump down when capra is going up the stairs.
also, upgrade your weapon with Andre, I imagine you have some titanite.

If you have an estus+2 and some points in vit, you can quite easily just turn almost every fight into a DPS race where you spam healing, and slowly walk away from any 1HKO attacks.
I'm playing Dark Souls for the first time right now, and the Halberd seems like even more of an easy button than the drake sword. About the same damage after a little bit of upgrading, and a fuckload of range. Why does nobody ever complain about it then?

Because it does way less damage, is viable the entire game, and you can find it without having to look up a guide.
Alright buddy, the trick to this guy is having an upgraded shield, you'll need either a balder shield, hollow soldier shield or Caduceus kite shield, the easiest to get is probably the kite shield since you buy it from andre, though the best is the balder shield but you need to grind balder knights to get it.
one of those shields at +5 make the Capra's hits bounce off.

This is seldom a problem in practice unless you're fighting really agile enemies in open spaces. Most of the time, the halberd is 'safer' than the longsword, and especially so in tight areas, as it rarely catches on things, does solid damage and allows you to keep your distance to boot. Maneaters are bullshit and the only way to beat them is luck more or less. Spamming Warding helped me though, because then I could two-hand and focus on dodging their lazers and shit instead of needing to parry or block their other attacks.

Drake Sword is only ever the best option from the moment you first get it until the end of the area where you find Andre.
Once you get the Large Ember in the depths there the Drake sword is outclassed in every way by whatever weapon you like.
