Well OP i asked about weapon and armor but if this is your first mh game i will recommend the most blasphemous thing is that you arm up expecting to get hit. Make herbal medicines and just stay alert.
I know it sounds dumb but you have to avoid her being spammy. Thats the biggest thing with pinky is that she chains moves together.
Your weapon choice makes a big deal getting in hits when shes done flopping about

It took 10 years but we finally got a difficult Rathian. To beat her you need to predict her movement.
1. In front of her - Hit the head and be ready to roll ahead to avoid the fire bite
2. Under her - Hit the belly and be ready to make 2 rolls to the side to avoid the tail

Shes the first to really punish you if you go full assault. Best to get it small whaps and pokes then watch her. She has a tell but its an errant teitch at best and her tail whip has no tell. As a hammer guy taking the fight to her face led to a lot of poisonings. Go for the legs you can get a stumble out of her then put in some heavy hits
I wanna talk about this.
How come in MH4U G-Rank is so fucking slapped on? I get that the original MH4 came out 8 months earlier, so they were like, "Duhh, we gotta make MH4G and add like 3 monsters and G-Rank"
But G-Rank was so not slapped on at the last second for MH3U. It just pisses me off and really breaks the game for me when my Hunting Horns are getting purple notes in high rank and the game is clearly made to not have G-Rank there, especially when you're unlocking high rank quests and high rank weapons and gear when you're well past it in G-Rank.
I ran into at least 4 weapons that stopped upgrading at high rank. Literally just ended their upgrade path at high rank. What the fuck.

Just hit and run when you know it's safe E.G. when she does big fireballs or after a charge. Always assume she's going to tailflip you when she's flying around.

Pink Rathian is the first huge roadblock for a lot of hunters so don't feel bad that you are getting rekt by it.
It took me a month to kill the Pink Rathian for the urgent quest with my friends, considering we had to do it 4 times.
Just keep going at it until you know the fight inside and out. Maybe upgrade your weapon and armor, build more defensive if you are dying really quickly (I made a Tetsucabra set specifically for this fight), make sure you are using the right food buffs. Things like that can make a huge difference.

It's a gesture you can do. You basically punch your fists out and it does a tiny bit of damage. Similar to kicking.
When you're hunting with some bros and they run at a monster and start Shadowboxing it, you know what's up.

Remember that she combos her attacks so don't ever attack unless you're absolutely sure there'll be no follow up.

Once mortally poisoned your chances of curing yourself and healing yourself before she finishes you off are slim. You are almost guaranteed to survive if you just farcast out when mortally poisoned but be sure to do it in relative safety since you can be knocked out of the farcaster cloud.
When I fight strong G-rank Rathians like gold I don't even fuck around with curing poison when I get tail tapped, I just farcast out. Thankfully getting hit with the tail is infrequent
