Donald, Mickey, Goofy, and Maleficient (at least for KH1) are significant characters to the overall story other than that a lot of it is visiting Disney based worlds along with some original ones. The FF characters are kind of cameo status at this point though some of them get their own bit of devotion/screen time. Sephiroth is a boss in KH1 and KH2.

Sadly, the other games seem to ditch the party member stuff, which was always a shame. Looks like they'll still be in for KH3 as its more or less confirmed that Rapunzel and Baymax join up in their worlds.
The disappointing thing for me in KH has always been that the party members only join for their own world. They use the Meddling excuse but it would have been nice to have a team of 6 partners you could change on the fly to form whichever pair you preferredAriel and Tarzan/Beast would have objectively been the best team for KH1

The first game has pretty much the best world building I have ever seen in any KH game. I have played the others (in 1.5 and 2.5).

I beat them in the 60s. Its really more about the abilities you have that make the fights winnable. The ultima weapon helps alot too. You definitely want to have second chance, mp haste, mp rage, and leaf bracer if youre gonna fight them. Make sure to always have aerora/ga up during the fights and always summon tinkerbell against the unknown. Put curaga on shortcut so you can have fast heals and bring elixirs for sephiroth to recover from heartless angel. Sephiroth can be interrupted during the casting of heartless angel and strike raid can do it from a distance.

The fights are still beatable without second chance you just have to be extra careful. Aeroga is extremely important in these cases. Tinker bell has a built in second chance ability. Unfortunately she cant be summoned against sephiroth tho.
