Thoughts on this series? How does it compare to other strategy games like Starcraft or C&C?

as a kid I always played it on easy so I could build a giant city in peace.
most of my childhood was spent with age of empires 1. I never played 2 because I didn't like the medieval setting back then. I started playing it again with the third one but I didn't get the same feeling as with the first one. I bought the aoe 2 hd edition and I can see why people loved it so much, but I still play it like the anno games and not like it's meant to be played. that's why when I started playing starcraft I got owned very bad

That's not the point. AoE threads can sometimes have a hard time staying afloat. The longer a thread is up, the more people that will see it and post in it. The thread is already at page 9 now with under 50 replies.

I enjoyed how AOE has always been a good mix of micro and macro. You don't have the obsessive clickfest like Starcraft or the autismo-lords like Total Annihilation.
And having all the civs speak in there native tongue is just the raddest thing.

That very rarely happens. It's not worth it. I would prefer threads like these where 90% is on topic vs shitposting threads where <25% is on topic. Hence why I would rather have slow, on topic threads than active meme threads.

I wish Age of Empires III had been more focused on Europe instead of America. Things like The Thirty Years War, Napoleon, The Dutch Revolution would have been a lot more interesting than the fountain of youth.

aoe2 with the conquerors expansion is the best rts ever created. the replayability the different tactics and the balance of so many factions the sheer fun of the gameplay, the mix of micro and macro like some anon noted (not obsessive clickfest), the timeless graphics, its just perfect.
