I did it at 61 but I died to him 25 times, more than i died to any other from soft boss. I did the rest with relative ease till I got to the fishing hamlet and decided to go back to the main game till I was level 80 and died a couple times to the boss there but beat him regardless

Get that Ax or whatever weapon you are using up to +9 or +10 and maybe throw a couple more points in Vitality and you should be good.

It's always a good idea to jump into the DLC at an early level if you want some decent items, a fair amount of gold and some experience in fighting. Make sure you bring mage pawns with you and you'll be fine. Once you reach the cockatrice, continue with the main game until further on. I chose the Strider vocation, fyi.

Getting a +9 weapon is pretty nice for a first time, get that first. You're in no hurry anon, take your time in the main game. If you go to the DLC too soon you'll overlevel the main game. That doesnt happen with the DLC.

you're better off waiting. you have to fight your way through the ENTIRE dlc to get to it, including 3 bosses. Collect your chunks or grind chalices unless you feel like REALLY earning that weapon
