It's a two second joke that pops up in a game chock full of ideas. Not many of them are altogether original, although most of them are more attuned to the setting than that one, and fit together to create a believable structure of human philosophical ideas that tries to model how people would react to the situation the game proposes. I don't think anyone's trying to claim that SMAC actually furthered any real philosophical field; rather, what's so noteworthy is how it intertwined these patterns of thinking with characters and a story that doesn't feel melodramatic or contrived like it does in so many other games.

First of all being surrounded by yesmen will cause you to radicalise. Initially they just had different ideas but did not hate eachother or try to kill eachother as actively.
