You can always play against bots to get the feeling of how game works. Bots aim quite well, but they lack strategy and coordination that you would see when playing with people.
sadly some people on public servers play worse than bots would
Or you can even remove bots and just explore the map to get familiar with terrain.

How do we kill EA?
Consolefags and dudebros are keeping it alive and well.
I would say that *whole* C&C community has to get together and demand EA releases C&C IP to some trusted developer/publisher or even to public.
If that fails, we pull pic related on EA top executives.

agree, EA aren't going to self-destruct themselves.
They are pushing limits about how much can they exploit normies (when did we start shortening "normalfag"), but not to the point of any serious money income decline.

I would really like to see all C&C sub-communities start coming together, making a unified vision of what to happen with C&C in the future, and then get enough vocal about it to get response out of EA.

I do however fear that EA will start to think "O shit, even though we completely fucked up C&C there is still fanbase that we can exploit further"

It's basically a client that allows people to play the older games online. Community there also has people that did some things to make the older games playable on newer systems.

Even if it's just for singleplayer, I'd recommend going there for their files since installing the older games otherwise and getting them to work is a hassle.

Keep in mind how tough it is to attract new players to a game where their first match could:
A) Last 230 minutes in an endless stalemate
B) Last 10 minutes before getting crushed by the other team.

It also doesn't have the tactical gun mechanics everybody expects from shooters nowadays. It's an arcade shooter inside an RTS.

The initial publicity when it went public didn't help. It ran like shit and there were some serious bugs.

The aesthetic didn't appeal to people either, Tiberian Dawn and Renegade by extension, made it look like a generic shooter with its modern weaponry when it's really anything but that.

On top of that, how the game works is too abstract for many to comprehend. Things like mining buildings or keeping buildings up or repairing other player's vehicles or APC rushes didn't sit well with a lot of people.

Then you had people complain about "balance issues" like how they thought GDI was overpowered simply because they had stronger vehicles like mammoth tanks.

What >>324293338 said and lots of lots of shitposting and misinformation.

Yeah, plus the DDOS frenzy that took down 3/4 of the servers (that was to be expected though. This game was easy prey). The community really has been fighting an uphill battle just to keep the game existing, nevermind populated.

But hell it is so worth it. I just had a match where I single-handedly C4d two enemy buildings to death after getting knocked down to one last structure and still lost the match when the enemy did a mass APC rush. You just never know what to expect in this game.

I mean things like aim bobbing for snipers, the fact that you can turn and strafe on a dime, and the fact that units can survive multiple headshots from most weapons. It is very enjoyable, especially in a classic fps sense, but a lot of people get put off by the thought of headshots being anything less than instant kills.

RenX has about 100 regular players, about 40 playing on a full server most of the day. Only one or two servers are left but at least they're populated enough to give you a decent game.

Because it WORKS. How the fuck do you counter a giant mass of death without using one of your own?
>>
>>324311472
EA at least TRIED with Red Alert 3 having actors in cheesy cutscenes and goofy shit in the mechanics. But it wasn't a very good C&C game.

One of those "your heart was in the right place, but your mind was somewhere cold and dark and covered with spiders"
>>
>>324311627
EA also tried on tiberium wars.
>>
>>324311487
The same way things like Company of Heroes do it (or try to). Hard counters, etc.

If someone builds a huge blob of tanks you should just call in an artillery/air strike that wipes the whole thing. A more diverse and spread out mass of units would take much less damage for game reasons.
>>
>>324311715

But the difference is even with its flaws, C&C3 was a good game.

That's what happens with every franchise EA buys. They make an actually good game and you think "oh hey maybe they'll treat it right".

Then they kick you in the nuts with the very next game.

>>324311718

Nothing in RA2 really could counter lots of tanks. Not to mention there's lots of games where the deathball is a lot of different units, just all clustered together.

Literally everything Klepacki does has that kinda sound. That's his thing.

Because units should be balanced, they should countered by other units. Hard counters in C&C were not that hard.
To be fair it is still much better than blizzard games which are the worst when it comes to this, you literally always build a giant blob of zealots or huntresses or whatever and just throw them at the enemy and micro them.
Not all old rts did this, for example aoe2 is a game that is unbalanced when it comes to civilization choice but when it comes to units it is fair. You will never get away with a deathball of cavalry for free against a competent player because halberdier destroy them.

In the first game you could win like 80% of GDI missions by just building like 50 grenadiers and throwing it at their base.

But those aren't Volkov and Chitzkoi.

What's everyone opinion on some of the newer RTS games?
I absolutly loved planetary annihilation
Play and beat gray goo, had loads of fun but the units felt way too same-y between factions
I have next to no idea what I'm doing in act of agression
Only played a tiny bit of etherium on a shitty laptop at sub 30FPS
Having loads of fun with ashes of the singularity
