I just want a new Homeworld game that is actually a Homeworld game. Not,

no wonder games are all so samey nowadays

i'm excited. I just hope there will some cool mechanics and gameplay.

I like the look of it, my only concern is performance, which has looked pretty choppy in the videos they've released.

Fuck. You. There's still no games like Homeworld, except Homeworld. And Homeworld 2 came out in fucking 2003. You know what there is a lot of? Land based RTS games.

This new Homeworld literally took the thing that set Homeworld's gameplay apart from the genre, and replaced it with basic ass RTS gameplay.

Fuck. You.
>>
>asking if anyone else is hyped

Nice job, dipshit.
>>
>>324268402
I really want it to be good. Homeworld is my all time favorite RTS. I'm hyped, but I suppose I'm also very afraid. RTS has been pretty much all indie scene these days and none of it has been very good.

I'm hype, just hope they put a speed slider in-game. The worst thing about HW1/2 was to wait for the sip to go from point A to B

Sword of the stars is fantastic. But you're right, it's total war in space.

The game itself has been in development for some time by old relic members under the name of Hardware: Shipbreakers. They only got the homeworld license from gearbox later though to turn it into an actual homeworld prequel.

I wander what Kushan cities look like. Will they be 1970's style realistic blocky sci fi or more sleek and ipod-ey
>>
Between HW1 and 2, 2 was way better IMO.

HW1 had a pretty good, emotional campaign, but gameplay-wise it was shit when compared with HW2. Graphics looked like ass, draw distance was low and the ships were crap. The campaign mission were boring as hell and all but 2-3 were forgettable.

HW2 on the other hand looked amazing, UI, controls and mission design were greatly improved. The thing that stopped HW2 from becoming the best of the series was that the devs ran out of money or something and were forced to cut a ton of content from the story.
>>
I knew Gearmeme would rape HW somehow but GODDAMN
>>
>>324285387
>gameplay-wise it was shit
This is true. I replayed it recently and I literally attack-moved every single mission without any problems or real care.

>>
>>324285718
There's not much to strategy in HW1.

If you're fighting fighter-class or Corvette ships; build Heavy Corvettes.

Anything that is Frigate or higher; Ion Cannon frigates.

Maybe a few Attack Bombers to spice things up.
>>
>>324286156
To be fair the original concept of this game, called "Hardware: Shipbreakers" was only loosely based on the HW series, since the devs didn't have rights to HW. It became an official HW game when Gearbox told them to make it a HW game.
>>
>>324286156
It wasn't a Homeworld game when it started actually. It was just made by the Homeworld people and then they made some sort of deal with Gearbox that let them use the Homeworld name.
>>
>>324286156
3D was literally a gimmick, the game could have been 2D and it would have played the same.

Hell, DoK probably has more 3D gameplay then the originals.

If you are talking about the remaster, its literally HW1 missions ported over to the HW2 engine.

Omissions in gameplay mechanics, such as re-fueling and the introduction of mechanics from HW2, such as enemy scaling, means the remastered HW1 missions were made significantly easier.

glad you started a thread, i was thinking about it last night and noticed i missed yesterday's thread

only played homeworld. was thinking of getting this for the free remastered, but i heard they dun goofed with combat. so i would have to wait for an official patch to get it back to the way it was? is there no fanmade one for 1 or 2 remastered to do formation control?

thinking of pirating the original 3 if that's the only way to do it right, but i don't know if they'll launch on win 7 anymore
>>
>>324286704

>>
>>324288396
Remastered looks great, but it is essentially the original games running with the HW2 engine
all things like combat formation, bullet physics and ship behavior of the original are gone.
GBX released some patches that can fix some of that.
Classic versions included on steam run fine.
I don't think the original HW1 and Cataclysm will run on W7 but HW2 will do fine.
>>
eh, we'll see if it's any good
>>
It looks pretty good to me, but I have never played Homeword. The units look beautiful.

The variable terrain will be interesting, but terrestrial-only combat seems dated in a post Planetary Annihilation world.
>>
>>324289085
thanks. it seemed like in yesterday's thread gearbox was going to release the patch that returns HW1 play style on the 20th. i don't want to buy this new game and just guess if they're going to deliver

>>
wait anthony burch doesn't have anything to do with this, right??
>>
>>324293031
No, the game was not made by gearbox, it was made by some devs that worked on the original HW. Gearbox just allowed them to use the HW trademark.
>>
>>324268402
I'm worried it's going to be a standard RTS like C&C or SC but with Homeworld aesthetics.
>>
>>324294341
There's no base building.
It's basically like Homeworld, but on the ground.

You build, research, launch, dock with your land carrier.
>>
>>324294341
There's 30 minutes of gameplay footage on youtube (IGN interview). It looks nice to me but having a short campaign (and only for 1 faction) kind of sucks.
