SOMA is really good but the monster stuff is unnecessary
If they had just stuck with the spooky atmosphere and the existentialism, it would have been amazing, but I guess they had to shove it in to satisfy the streamfags

Will we ever have the answers?
To anything?
To everything?
Why are we able to ask questions like "Why am I here?" but not able to truly answer them?

You're thinking of a story from Land of the Lawn Weenies. Those stories were fucked up for kids, Jesus.

>kid babysitting some girl at a playground
>some weird kids start showing up
>more of them
>they're making weird sounds
>he can't find the kid
>the playground is fucking swarming with lolis making clicking sounds
>tries to find her in the crowd
>the kids grab him
>they're buzzing like insects
>force him into the slide
>there's a hole inside of it
>leads to a cavern underground
>he gets fucking absorbed into a giant scabbing wound of a blind, immobile human-insect spawning blob
Seriously, what the fuck?

I'd do something like this.
If I made games that is. I'd have the game go on as normal, it'd likely be a non horror game.
But when someone breaks into the code of the game they find out the entire game there's been an invisible AI with meticulously designed behavior following the character, even hiding when it "think" the player has seen them.
It'd be pretty funny i think.

In game it occurs because you are the robots. You can turn it off though.

Why isn't there a good game that isn't a horror game but has a very low chance for some spooky ass shit to happen
Like some brown n bloom shooter that has a really low chance to spawn some sort of black silhouette behind you or in a scary place

your image reminded me of that one picture of gondola, pepe, and wojack all in a really comfy cabin.

And there's just something in the attic staring at a candle.

Are there any games that fit that bill of being halfway really comfy and safe, but also intensely spooky? I wish there was a game where you just played with anons in a really comfy 3d environment and just chatted and did chores, but every once in a while you have to go out and get supplies, and there's something in the woods. Just assorted horror shit like skinwalkers and shadow people trying to destroy your comfytude. You can stay and shitpost all you want, stick with friends and just be happy, but... there's something horrible just outside the door.

Is there anything like that?

Any console horror games coming out soon I might not know about? I don't care if it's jumpy or atmospheric, I just love horror.

I actually loved Evil Within a lot, even though it very quickly discards the approach the first couple levels take. And Alien Isolation was great up until the ending. Hiding from the xenomorph, I actually found myself stretching my neck out when I had Ripley hiding behind a table. I got that immersed in it.

Alan Wake did something like this more or less. I clearly remember a level in which there were many wooden cabins at the start of it. There was no enemy in that area (not at start at least), but if you entered one of the cabins and explored it, you could see at the windows those ghostly enemies just passing there. If you exited, no one was there at all, and the event wouldn't repeat again.

>Kid buys an appointment book at a yard sale
>Uses it to make sure he remembers things, like take out trash, watch tv show at x time
>Never gets any of it done, thinks the book doesn't help him
>Realizes everything he wrote in the book never gets done
>Uses it to do all kinds of things
>Gets to the final page
>He can only think of one thing to write on it
>"Die"
>After he writes it and begins to panic, because if the note is destroyed he'll become mortal again
>Put's into a metal lunch box, welds it shut, and goes to a construction site at night
>Buries it under drying cement in the foundation of a building
>Runs home, ecstatic.
>Begins gaining weight as time goes on, confused.
>His sister tells him she practiced spelling her name on the last page of the notebook, but only got the first letter before he came back and ran off with the book
>Her name began with a T

Alien Isolation

I'm upset at myself for only barely playing through the game now, but the tension and atmosphere I felt in this game is something I have not felt or seen in a game in a very long time.

While I felt we could have done away with the revolver or shotgun, every other supply and trap felt so perfect.

The amount of pure fear and tension I felt during the android portions of the games is unmatched, the lifelessness they carry when they walk so slow towards you, when you hear them talking to themselves, during the late chapters when you're going through all the decommissioned and destroyed androids and you never know which one is going to wake up.
But especially my favorite most fearful moment was going through the area after you have to surrender your shotgun, revolver and flamethrower and fight new industrial synthetics that are immune to EMPS and the stun boton.

While some areas felt dragged out at times, It's still a great survival horror game that I have played in years and recommend it to anyone who has never played it.

I've never really seen my face as m own. Not in some transgender sort of way or some bullshit. Like it was a different person an I got my mind transplanted or something. Sometimes I would look at my hands, at my arms and just feel wrong. Like they aren't mine, they're foreign.
S'weird. And for a long time of my life I was really afraid of my reflection.

I just dislike how so much of personal communication and group dynamics is based on facial expression.
I don't really make them so what I'm thinking or how I'm feeling isn't expressed through my face. If I want to have a casual conversation with someone who doesn't really know me I have to remind myself to make them and I feel like I have to exaggerate how I contort my features far more than comes naturally.
I've noticed I tend to partially conceal my mouth with my hand a lot of the time.

When we die, nothing happens, as in, you get up. Wherever you died, you get up, look back down, and see your body. Your bring your head back up and see your dead relatives. "About time you showed up, goddamn it. Come on, they have Discovery on in the other room."

The afterlife is just our spirits persisting on a plane overlaping our own. They can watch us, talk to other spirits, and explore the world as they see fit, still bound by earthly physics but unable to actually invoke any movement or transfer of energy on physical matter. Everyone who was ever dead is here, though maybe some had to disappear so the spiritual plane wouldn't get overcrowded, but who knows where you'd go.

What did it for me was after I had cooled the working Joes in the other room before you sit in APOLLO, and killed the other one standing in the hallway with a pipe bomb, after I reactivated the system in the middle I made some noise and alerted one of them in the other area and ran back to where the 2 areas meet in the middle and next thing I see is 5 working Joes following me around

Once when I was about twelve, I tried going to sleep but as soon as I'd try to sleep and close my eyes I felt like I was drifting away from my body.

Like I could actually see my body in bed and that I was being pulled away from the scene.

Spooked me so badly I had my mother stay with me to make sure I didnt die.

Another time I had a bout of sleep paralysis
>Wake up late at night
>Oh fuck why cant I move my body
>i feel like something is breathing down my neck
>i am trying to move with all my might
>nothing
>I begin focusing all effort on my pinky
>Literally screaming in my head to move
>It begins to very slightly wiggle
>Keep wiggling
>Eventually my hand starts to shake
>Feel like im gonng to suffocate
>I keep wiggling my hand
>Suddenly I am able to wiggle my arm
>Because of how hard I was trying it immedialty shoots through my entire body that I am trying to move
>Every muscle in my body proceeds to launch my ass out of bed and land on my ass
Was the first time I had felt something like that.

Here's a spooky dream i had a few months back, the last thread made me remember it
(It's copypasted from a skype chat so excuse the poor formatting)

so this dream, in it I was 15 again. A bunch of 20-somethings were in my house hanging out with me and eventually we decided to have an orgy in my parent's bed since they were out. We're waiting for the last guy to show up, and he does and it's david hasslehoff (This isn't the scary part)
One of the dudes says before we can start fucking we need to get this local brand of potato chips for pre-orgy snacks, so all the guys including me (except the hoff) go out to anonburg(a town 20 minutes from my place)
along the way there we pass by the [PLACE WHERE I WORK], and everyone is leaving. Like, EVERYONE, just getting the hell out of anacortes. We dont care though since we need these chips
so we start taking shortcuts through back alleys and backyards and theyre all abandoned and full fo trash/old debris
eventually we end up in "Anonburg high school" which looks more like a run down/abandoned military base/warehouse. Inside the "school" we find a train station which is bloody and rusty as fuck. Tons of really emaciated people are here, waiting for a train. Counters on the wall keep track of all the people who have died here, catagorized into "young, old, male, female, pregnant" etc.
waiting for a train would take too long so we hop a fence because we NEED these chips
behind the fence is a like, rip in reality? on the other side is some weird, distorted otherworld, purple and rocky with pale green coral shit growing. it's mostly a straight path floating in a starry void
I'm alone at this point and as I make my way through the otherworld I start hearing some kind of entity speaking to me about how I'll free it. I can see it at the end of the path, a sort of dark, shadowy figure, kind of child sized
(I woke up as soon as I reached the entity)

probably, considering that they explicitly talk about Vivarium in-game.
Several times.
Quite a lot of the plot revolves around it, in fact.
>>
>>324238460
Ok, so you get how the WAU was programmed to save humans and that's why it was making all those monsters/keeping people only technically alive?
It made the Vivarium, which is the thing in the video, and they're studying it. It made it as an attempt to preserve humanity digitally.
Catherine got the idea for the ARK from studying it.
>>
>>324238494
I actually tried this one night not to long ago in a dim light. My face itself didn't really distort but the center of my eyes started growing which freaked me out for a bit. When I nearly shat that brick the eyes shrunk down to normal. I'm too scared to try this again because of that.
>>
>>324236830
Mostly the same way you'd do any other horror game, just play off the MMO aspect.
Maybe have monsters that imitate players, or force players to rely on each other but then also give them incentives to betray each other.
>>
>>324238358
There is gameplay, there are puzzles and things, plus hiding from monsters
Games with fail states can't be walking simulators

Why isn't there a game that depicts hell for what it's hyped up to be?

you think your able to even attempt to comprehend what hell would be like while still alive?

hell would be past your current comprehension, pain and suffering on an eternal scale using emotions, experiences and colors you never could or wanted to have seen before. maybe it starts tame, classic demons with horns and hot iron prods but your mind would get used to it after awhile and then the eternal part kicks in, it would get worse, to another level of complete suffering that you wouldnt think possible and that you know couldnt get any worse.
but then it keeps getting worse

I imagine it as torment on a conceptual level.

Past death, physics and earthly reality has no grip or bearing. Our souls are tortured in ways impossible to comprehend in the living world, suffering on a scale above and beyond the human experience. Never relenting or dying down.

We will become the very essence of 'hell'.

That's OK anon, to each their own. I really hated the death "animations" in soma

literally every monster just approaches you and your vision turns to static. No monster has a threatening or visceral attack and your reaction to being hit by a monster is too vague and not very scary. Enemies ended up feeling non-threatening and just annoying when they're after you; like they're just shuffling over to you so they can hump your leg or something.

If you aren't religious then I'm sure it's not very difficult to find the answer to questions like "Why am I here?", it's just cuz you evolved 'n shit.
You can go further and find the answer to questions like "Why did anything evolve?" and "Why and how did the Earth form?" if you aren't satisfied with that.

The only question of that nature I find difficult to answer is "Why does anything exist at all?". It's really difficult for me to wrap my head around the idea that reality exists because it just kind of... does, I guess.
