Your logic process is interesting, but flawed.
The FPS genre just sort of happened, Halo being one of the early ones, but CoD spring forth on its own and mutated into the abomination of today. DLC sprang from Expansion packs, which was basically, much smaller expansions for a much smaller price, but they could cut content harder than price and still get away with it.
Season passes popped from having DLC collections equivalent (roughly) to 1 expansion.

Whereas CoD comes from the WWII FPS line goes Wolfenstein 3D > Medal of Honor/Return to Castle Wolfenstein/Battlefield 1942 > Call of Duty >Call of Duty 2 > CoD MW
The only reason you'd say Halo spawned CoD is if you weren't around to see how the genre evolved in the first place.
