>>

should i watch lain or nhk if i really liked evangelion?
i don't really care about waifus and i think the whole otaku culture shaming thing a lot of anime do gets really old really fast, i get it, otakus suck, can we move along instead of dragging on with this riveting, biting commentary that's never been done before

Lain is mindfuck watch it it's short and good.

I'm not sure about the film but I think Lain uses some really low, high-pitched sound samples.

you check out files in a directory in a semi-random order (some are unlocked after looking through a certain file)
they can be video/audio recordings of psychiatric sessions Lain undergoes and other stuff related to her life
the story in the game is apparently pretty different from the tv show

I really want to check it out fully someday

watch Texhnolyze instead. it's another anime by ABe and feels like Evangelion.

it's really hard to sit through and I guess that's why it's so unpopular, but by the end everything comes together and you'll feel like shit.

SEL predicted cell phones, message/imageboards, anonymous and cult-like internet communities, the widespread usage of the internet, and memes.

The alien was a small part of it all.
>>
>>324219852

Sure.

Lol no, it eventually gets good but the dry as hell first half ensures that Lain's the better show as a whole.

lain predicted that the internet would become an integral part of the infrastructure of the human mind and eventually resonate with the earth's crystalline upper layers.
"the dead have nowhere to go" or something like that.

Does anon have significantly younger siblings/other young relatives they are close to? Do you think their worldview differs a lot, if any, from having grown up surrounded by modern computers, smart devices and social media, rather than seeing them grow up (perhaps alongside yourself, depending on your own age?)

Not really, my little sister spends all her time on her cell phone, but also thinks that people are too dependent on technology like me. She doesn't think much differently from me fundamentally. Although she thinks she is the center of everything, but that's just a trait of being a teenager which social media doesn't have much of an effect on.

They're largely independent of each other, the stories in each are independent. The game supposedly has a few details that are never brought up in the anime, but they're kinda insignificant things.

Angel's Egg is more artsy than deep, like Mushishi.

other than the ones I mentioned, from the top of my head, Paranoia Agent and the Patlabor movies.

I'm the anon who asked the question, I'm 23 right now and have been actively using the Internet from around 2001-2002. Computers were already being used for education at school but it wasn't common for everybody to have access to the Internet at that point, most families maybe had a PC at home but it was only for adult use or whatever, my mom let me use hers though. Everyone did get mobile phones pretty early, I remember all those fucking Nokia 3310s. Then suddenly everyone had their own computer in one form or another, and the Internet blew up with social networking sites. My memory may be rose-tinted and unreliable in some ways but I remember that the world was pretty different around the turn of the millennium. So, I like to consider myself as part of the last few generations who saw the change firsthand. I think it's a really interesting question how much people take for granted when they grow up with these things.

I've found a lot of friends and other forms of comfort through the Internet as well.

Up until that point Lain's growing omnipresence was a good thing - giving her more and more info about what she desired to know.

Then suddenly it started responding to simple wims and she witnessed something she both didn't want to, and something that violated the only human she gave a fuck about's trust.

It also forced her to act on reality in a very precise way.
