As far as gameplay goes, I'm not sure. All we have to judge the game so far is two years worth of early builds. There is no proper way of judging if the game is balanced let alonefunaside from the usual fucking around. He may have bitten off way too much he can chew by making a town outside the school. He should just focus on making the school work along with the gameplay mechanics and AI.

When I heard that this thing some guy used to post about on /v/ had gathered so much popularity, I thought it was awesome. There might be a problem with having too much ambition. He is lucky enough to not have a time restraint aside from the risk of losing audience interest but on the other hand, the game has to eventually come out.
It's very tempting to continuing adding new features but it might get to a point where adding said features no longer makes the game any better. It's like an author who keeps adding more and more pages to a story instead of taking what was established and polishing them. Not only can this become a nightmare on a technical level but it can also be a detriment to the experience itself. A feature can be a good idea but it may just be a waste of time and space. You have to bake the cake first before applying the icing.

Did you follow the kikestarter at all? It was tanking so bad the people there had to do a lot of panic stuff to salvage it. It was kind of impressive that they managed to make it at all, but it didn't raise "millions" if you count the kickstarter fees.
